Look, I think we need to unpack all those moments with Hob.

Throughout this season he is so supportive, honest and truly a friend to Dream. They love each other so much and you can see how much Morpheus just wants to spend time with Hob, chat with him, laugh with him, just... talk with him. Be truly seen. How much he has been holding back and how over the years he has let himself get closer and truly become friends with him. I am not going to get into whether this is close friendship or love because honestly I don't know how one can be not in love with your closest friends, so let's not get into that, let us just say this: they are devoted to each other.

And Hob saying "He was my.... my friend", "but not my Dream", and then having a proper chat with the new personification of the Dream of the Endless, and choosing to stay... I think this is again a sign of true friendship: he knows that his Dream is gone, but his memories remain within this new person. And this new person is so new and lost, and they need a friend, and he stays. I think Hob knows Morpheus would have wanted him to stay, would be grateful.
