Holcim Philippines Inc. net income grew to P1.43 billion during the first quarter of the year up by 77% increase from last year.

Sale were affected by the heavy rains in January and February in Mindanao, but demand in Luzon, particularly in Metro Manila, remained healthy.

Bulk cement volumes have also been gradually rising, which points to a sustained pace of large construction projects.

The Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines says demand slowed to 3.4% in the first quarter of 2013 as the sector was coming from a very high base with record volumes registered last year.

HLCM cites strong demand in Luzon tempered by weak demand affected by Jan and Feb heavy rains in Mindanao.
