Post Round 24 - Fallout
Three children sat in the shade of the tree
two were in love
one loved.
Three children watched the stars together
two understood
one never could.
Three children holding hands
All in a row
All loved
Three children
Were not children anymore
And one lost
And two were
left.
One was left
One was the stars themselves
And one was lost
And one
was lost.

Not even Eddy could console Tallis when she died.
Tallis had to be sedated when he wouldn't cease his screaming and his clawing at the helmet the electrodes attached to. He looked like he was going to rip his own damn head off. He scratched his own eyeballs and made the whites a furious pink when he clawed at them like he was trying to gouge them out so he might never have to see again.
Eddy held him when Yakun sunk the needle into his neck to force him into unconsciousness. Tallis sank back into Eddy, legs going limp, hands scrabbling for Eddy's arm like he was desperate for something real (human) to hold onto.
Eddy wasn't supposed to show weakness in front of their coworkers and superiors.
But when they cradled Tallis's head to their chest that night in a frantic attempt to comfort what couldn't be comforted even in sleep, hands covering his ears like they could block the world out from his senses, Eddy cried, all silent tears and bitten lips.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
