howdy neighbour

While it took some significant time to get used to his current living situation β namely the fact that he was living with roommates and was confined to one private room β the Doctor had accepted his lot, using the situation to his advantage even. Sure, it was by far not as comfortable as having his laboratory as well as overseeing who enters and leaves it, but so was life; the Doctor was nothing if not adaptable.
And besides, his situation could have been a lot worse.
So he decided to take things day by day and allow himself to slow down, his charming roommates definitely helping him to get accustomed to the more mundane things in life.
For example, as he was doing now, sitting on the balcony with a freshly brewed cup of coffee in his hand, the aroma bringing memories of something that deep down shouldβve felt like home. Memories of coffee, spilled ink, filled notebooks and torn out papers, the humidity of the forest and the hot desert air, grease and oil and sweat and blood. All those sensations coming over him with a sip of his drink, and fading again moments after, like a wave caressing the shores of a beach, gentle yet unbound. Maybe he should seek a little talk with Lesser Lord Kusanali againβ¦
But before that dangerous thought could inspire a more laid out plan, he noticed movement in the yard next to his own, eyes darting over to the figure one house over.
The Doctor stood up from his seat to lean over the railing of his balcony, the cup of coffee held leisurely in his free hand while he inspected the man, evidently his neighbour, while he was seemingly practicing his swordplay.
It was a fascinating display of physical prowess and vigilant practice, the Doctor watching on for a while, thinking this was just as much entertainment as Queenβs cartoons and reality shows.
And after a few more moments of simple observation, he raised his voice to garner the young manβs attention. βExcellent form, and your posture is perfect, but your footwork is lacking a little.β
Not that he was well versed in the art of sword fighting; usually he was at the end of a blade, not at the hilt of it.
