Something is very wrong.
It's as Vanth is lying on Adolin's mattress, alone and unwell, that a bolt of danger fires through his bond with Sebastian. With the most energy he's had since traveling to the second Spirale, Vanth shoots up in alarm, eyes wide and out of breath. On the wall, a clock tick, tick, ticks the sundown hourโSebastian should've been back over half an hour ago, shouldn't he?
Vanth is in no shape for a conflict, but if there's danger, he can get them out of it. He grabs his boots, shakily ties their laces, and takes to the streets of Fibonacci, using a quick teleport to conserve his strength. He lands on the sidewalk, leaning against the wall of one of the many skyward-reaching buildings of this ward, and is met with the summer sun hanging fire red on the horizon. The streets drone with the ghostly echoes of rush hour traffic, though they are utterly empty, merely haunted by the data of what should be there.
It's unsettling, but it makes navigating along the string of his and Sebastian's souls a little easier. Vanth trudges along the bottom perimeter of the high-rise, gaze straight ahead, but only gets as far as a turned street before a shadow overtakes his small, fragile shape. The next second, his chin is snatched between a pair of fingers, turned up to face a blazing pair of golden eyes, and though the color itself is hot as the sinking sun, it falls over him coldly like light bathing over somber snow.
โ Aureโ โ The angel's words cut him off, leaving Vanth to whimper as they jab emphasis toward his currently sorry state. Inside his hold, Vanth attempts to shrink. He doesn't want this confrontation, not now, orโmaybe not ever.
Because Vanth isn't happy, at least not with things as they are. Any other time, he would disguise it with rage. But right now, nothing about him is right; instead of anger, his chest answers tightly with sorrow.
โ Mmghโ โ Loose over his shoulders, Vanth's head shakes aimlessly between yes and no. His hands push at Aurelius's wrist, hoping to escape not only his grip, but this encounter altogether. The effort is completely futile at best; as he is, Vanth can hardly close a fist.
โ How could I? โ Vanth wheezes at last. โ You think I want to waste away? Or, do any of thisโb- bullshit fighting? But there's sides, Aurelius. We'll just, keep fucking hurting each other. โ
