Fingers twisted the newly placed band around as she stared at the picture they’d taken in S.T.A.R. Labs, the picture taken during a time where they’d been a team. Where Harrison Wells was exactly who he said he was, or at least that’s why they had believed. Maybe it was easier then. Not knowing had been better for them hadn’t it? Caitlin had felt like they were doing something meaningful. That this was for the best. EVERYTHING had been a lie. There was a dull ache as she thought about how much it meant to her to be apart of something so special. Now? Now she just wanted to run.
Deep down, she knew it would be hard to leave Central City. Helping The Flash had been important. Life changing, something that she would not have traded for anything. It was the first time she’d felt like she’d been apart of something and she had. Those men that stood next to her would always been a part of her. As connected as Ronnie was to Martin, she felt as if she was connected to them, just in a less physical sense. It was time for her to give it all up though. The ring on her finger was what really made her think about Ronnie’s words when he first had come back to her.
The creaking sound of the door caused brown eyes to search for the man that would be entering. Her husband. A man she wanted to grow old with, start a family with. That wasn’t something she would ever feel comfortable doing as long as they were in danger. Central City -- firestorm, her being the eyes and ears -- they’d never truly be safe. Seeing concern written across Ronnie’s face, she realized that there were tears falling. Arms wrapped around herself, she looked at him, blurred from watery eyes and nodded.
❝ You were right....I think it’s time we started our lives elsewhere.❞
