Hi-Speed Ragtime Cowboy Joe

From 8bit FEVER, the second album by Hi-Speed—the unit Hacchi (aka 8) and Taiji Takahashi were part of prior to forming the legendary, unstoppable Deavid Soul.

Hi-Speed were masterminded by noted weirdo Mizuhiro in the mid 90s, and their first record, erioka con animac planetico sounds little like would come next; it's instrument-focused proggy noodling in minute-long bursts. hacchi joined for the second album correction, he was on the first album!, and with him and taiji together, 8bit FEVER often sounds like a Deavid Soul blueprint (approached with the messiness of erioka con), most notably in this track written by hacchi—even the title sounds like a Sparkling Music b-side. the whole record's great; a bit looser, freakier and post-shibuya-kei (Takako Minekawa does vox on "Sound of Feeling") compared to the disco cartoon madness Deavid Soul cooked up. the last song breaks into an impromptu chorus in its final minutes. it's awesome. (side note: given its proximity to DS' sound, i'm surprised this is in the lesser known record in Hi-Speed's catalog?)
