evenings for lani lately had been especially boring, to say the least. when she wasn’t studying hard for finals, she spent much of her evenings sulking around her apartment and remembering how great things used to be. although she would never admit it out loud, the girl missed having someone to talk to beyond the shallow people she spent much of her time with -- more particularly, she missed keever. he had moved on though, or at least that is what lani had convinced herself. to the outside world, pain was something lani never experienced and that’s just how she liked them to think. partying involved a great deal of alcohol and forgetting the things that bothered her, and what really bothered her was not knowing why she was like this to begin with. why did she find it so satisfying to cover up who she really was? “lani, is this place okay?” the sound of her date’s voice suddenly took her out of her deep thoughts. “oh yeah, it’s fine.” she stated simply, offering him a slight smile and walking into the restaurant. her brown hues moved around the restaurant in search of a table when she saw something that almost made her want to run out of the establishment. in the distance, keever sat at a table with another girl -- one that she had never seen before. it wasn’t just a longtime friend of his, and it certainly wasn't family. although she was more than a little hurt by the sight, jealousy is the emotion that really took over her whole body. “babe, actually, there’s a really good friend over there that I haven’t seen in quite some time and I’d like you to meet him.” all she had to do was flutter her eyelashes and the other agreed. quite honestly, lani had no idea what she was doing or how keever would react, but she couldn’t stop herself as the two made way to the table where her ex and the mystery girl sat. “keever fairchild, funny running into you here.” her voice was far too confident for the inner anxiety she felt at just saying his name. “this is my date, jack. mind if we join for a little bit? it’s sort of packed in here.”
