But the court had become more than a place to practice for Zia; it had become a refuge. She ran any and all drills she could perform by herself on the court before and after her classes, and when she knew she had to take a break for her own health (and sanity), she found herself in the lounge area between locker rooms, homework sprawled out before her, laptop sitting atop a textbook she didn’t bother to open. It was hard to write an essay when all she could think about was the game, so she pretended to be getting work done while browsing the internet, taking careful measures to avoid any article that could involve the Foxes or the Lions.

Exhausted, she was reading a news article about nothing particularly important to distract herself, her chin resting in her hands. Zia didn’t even bother to look up when she heard footsteps, simply announcing, “If you’re Wymack, I’m not in the mood.”
