âWhoever wrote that burn book really isnât your fan,â he teases, clicking his tongue. âWhat did they say... vapid and immature. Quite the words.â He looks over at Trinity, chuckling lightly.
âAwfully polite.â John smiles, exposing twin rows of chipped yellow teeth. âWhereâd you find this one, Harry?â
âEasy.â Harry pins him with a sharp glare. âThatâs my wife youâre talking about.â
You glance at him, eyes wide. He ignores your shocked expression, tilting his chin toward the bag in your hands.
âCount them, love,â he tells you. The affectionate epithet tumbles seamlessly off his tongue. âJohn here isnât exactly the most trustworthy partner.â
The other man guffaws. You sift through the sack, mouthing silently to yourself. At last, you look up at Harry and nod firmly.
âA dozen.â
âGood,â he grunts, stepping back. âLetâs go.â
The two of you resume your promenade. You weave in between crowds; Harry goes first, clearing the way, and you follow. A gaggle of children sprint past you, laughing happily with their arms outstretched. Over the raucous buzzing in the square, a quiet giggle reaches Harryâs ears.
âWhatâs so funny?â he asks, peering at you from over his shoulder.
You shake your head slightly and cover your mouth with your fingertips.
âNothing,â you say. You speed up to match his pace. âItâs justâyour wife?â
âDid you have a better idea?â he says dryly, cocking one eyebrow.
âI suppose not.â
âRight, then,â he grumbles, rolling his shoulders. âUntil we arrive back home, youâre my wife.â
You peer up at him with shimmering eyes. âLucky me.â
