I should probably update my Tumblr more and check it more. But I just don't seem to care. 

The excerpt titled "Bowery as Haven and Spectacle" from Gay New York written by Chauncey was about how Bowery an area in New York City was a place where people would be free to do whatever they wanted to do without feeling judged for it. The middle and upper class for the most part looked at that area as a place of downgrade but those who participated in sexual acts and fantasies within that area liked how they felt it was a safe haven. It was interesting to see that Times Square was not the only place that was considered a Red District, although I know Times Square as it is today, I am aware of what it used to be but never knew that there were other areas of New York that was involved in sexual acts. Chauncey says "they were a central site of a distinctly working class male culture in which 'fairies' and 'normal' men publicly and sexually interacted with remarkable ease" which showed that different groups could come together without judgment even though that both groups are of the male gender, they both view sex/sexual partners differently.
