“Popcorn!” Emily shrieked, laughing and bouncing on the couch.

Dean chuckled. “Did I ever tell you about the first time I took Daddy to see a movie? As soon as the movie started he started lecturing me about popcorn.”

“It wasn’t a lecture,” Cas interjected. “I only asked if you knew that people had been making and eati–”

“And that’s enough of that, right Em?”

Emily giggled, tugging Dean to sit on the couch with one hand and grabbing for the bowl of popcorn with the other. “Daddy just likes to teach us stuff!”

Cas sat on the couch so their daughter was between them. He winked at Dean. “Just tell Papa there’s no difference between cheesecake and pie, Emily. He’s just as good at ‘teaching us stuff.’” He didn’t make the air quotes, but Dean could hear them.

As Dean opened his mouth to protest Emily added, “Or say that Baby is ‘just a car!’” Emily actually did make the air quotes with her fingers. She looked at Cas, a question behind her smile.

“Exactly right, Emily! Although you may want to watch out..”

“No one talks about my Baby that way!” Dean bellowed, easily picking up the five year old and swinging her over his shoulder. He marched around the room as she squealed and demanded to be released. Dean ignored her pleas, loudly rambling on about using the proper soap to clean Baby’s tires.

Cas rolled his eyes. “I hate to interrupt this very important lesson in tire maintenance,” he said drily, “but weren’t we going to watch a movie?”

“Sid! Sid! Sid!” chanted Emily.

Dean put their child on the couch and flopped down beside her. “I like Diego.” he said.

Cas smiled. “Of course you do. He’s the hunter.”

Well, I’m enjoying Chuck in a fictional world, but I’m actually an atheist and punching the air like a crazy person, yelling at the sky, would get me some funny looks, that’s for sure ;D

This was WAY harder than I expected it to be…! I’m not sure I like how it turned out. But it got me writing, so that’s good, right? :)

“I don’t understand the point of this,” said Cas.

Dean groaned. Of course Cas didn’t understand. It’s not like he grew up playing pretend with his angel brothers and sisters. Dean smiled at the thought of tiny Cas and Gabriel and Anna on a playground, slaying imaginary dragons and rescuing princesses. And then he repressed a shudder, because they actually could slay dragons, and angels had horrible impulse control, and the thought of child angels…

“Hey Cas, when you were created, were you just the same as you are now? I mean, you weren’t created as a kid, were you?”

Cas tilted his head. “When I was created I was a multi-dimensional wavelength of celestial intent. Not a baby goat. And I didn’t have this vessel, either.”

“Not a baby goat, Cas..a…oh, nevermind. The fireplace. It’s just pretend. Like children pretend. Haven’t you ever watched children play? I’d love to sit in front of a real fire with you, but we don’t have a fireplace. I’m improvising.”

Cas sighed, but his eyes crinkled with a smile when he said, “Alright. For you.”
