Rhys sighed as he looked at the gathered nobility of the party. He'd been invited by a friend of a friend in hopes of finding good food, good wine and maybe better women to cure his boredom. So far two out of the three had been fulfilled, yet most of the gathered wanted little to say or do with the tilling bard. He was just about to leave, when he spied a more than attractive blonde woman seemingly off by herself looking about as bored as he felt. Rhys squared his shoulders and sauntered over to the woman with an easy smile. "You look like you're having loads of fun."
Anna despised events like this. Especially now that it was part of her engagement. Although her parents had promised her a marriage for love, they were like other people of their station: unable to resist the lure of more power, wealth, and prestige. At least her younger sister had managed to escape this and marry someone of her own choosing. She sighed, wishing that she were anywhere else but there. Halfway through her dreary thoughts, she heard someone speak, clearly addressing her, and she looked over. “Is it that obvious?” she quipped, his humor making her smile a little. “You’re the bard that my parents hired to sing for us, aren’t you?” She thought that he looked attractive, and upon closer inspection, she realized that she was right.
