social events like these have never been her favorite ------ even while under contract they proved to be just a little too much ... especially while she was attempting to complete a contract. too many witnesses. too many variables. and while there were certainly some crows who thrived on the extra notoriety that came along with something so brazen and in the open, she'd much rather take care of things as quietly as possible.
she scolds with a slight click of her tongue meant for her and her alone --- not the surrounding festivities. the last thing on her mind tonight should be contracts. or crows --------
it's almost as if he can tell that her mind is wandering, feeling laurien's hand settle gently on her back ---- the warmth of his palm meandering slowly over the open back of her dress. ( she knew she'd chosen it for a reason. ) despite how obvious an action it is ------ at least it is to the two of them; the rest of the party continues on unaware of how something as simple as his hand brushing against her skin can pull a smirk worthy of being hidden ( as best she can, at least ) behind the lip of her drink.
she lifts her chin to catch a glimpse of him instead of turning around ( that would mean he'd have to stop what he was doing, after all. ),"i thought we promised your sister we'd be on our best behavior tonight," well ---- she'd made a promise to viago, but by proxy that also meant promising josephine. his response isn't verbal ----- the breadth of his palm is swapped out for the edge of his knuckle; the line he traces from her neck down along her spine sending a noticeable shiver through her. perhaps she really had been the only one to promise ----- and laurien was awfully persuasive about her going back on it.
"........do you think we'd be missed if we left early?"
