So I'm all in: I'm officially a member of WWOOF Hawaii, HelpX, and Workaway. I'm psyched to discover opportunities through these organizations. Nachdem wir Tonio am 13.01. zum Flughafen gebracht hatten, ging es fĂźr uns weiter nach Te Awamutu. Wir hatten nämlich Ăźber die Internetseite helpX nach einer Familie gesucht, die uns fĂźr einige Tage bei sich aufnehmen wĂźrde. Das Konzept von helpX ist, dass man als Gegenleistung fĂźr ein bisschen Hilfe im Haus/Garten/Farm Verpflegung und Unterkunft gestellt bekommt. Gelandet sind wir bei einem netten Ehepaar, Lynda & Shane. Die beiden wohnen zusammen mit zwei Katzen, einem Hund, 2 KĂźhen und 11 HĂźhnern in einem groĂen Haus mit einem riesigen GrundstĂźck weit weg von allem, was man so Zivilisation nennen kann. Was auch schon dazu gefĂźhrt hat, dass wir uns mitten in der Nacht unglaublich verfahren haben, da Navigationssysteme die Adresse wohl noch nicht kennen... Wir haben wirklich groĂes GlĂźck mit den beiden. Sie sind super nett, Lynda kocht fabelhaft, wir mĂźssen wirklich sehr wenig arbeiten und bekommen immer mal einen kompletten Tag frei, um TagesausflĂźge zu machen.

One of my friends might be homeless soon. Do you have any advice?
yes, this is mostly from my personal experience. 1. pack a go-back with essentials. This includes good layers for warmth, toiletries etc. donât pack a bunch of jumpers, try and get a base layer, mid layer and waterproof jacket. This will keep you warmer.
2. look in the area for support near you. Soup kitchens, youth hostels, homeless shelters etc. even if you donât think you will need it, it may be useful later
3. look into âworking travelâ opportunities. For example, HelpX allows you to work for 5 hours a day in exchange for free food and accommodation. There may be this or something like this near you.

I remember, after the end of the lockdown, I was determined to not give up of my trip. I was even okay to go somewhere else instead of Japan. After all, I didnât quit my job and my life to finish at my parents house.

When I was in Kyoto, I find a job of volunteer inside a guesthouse near the kyoto train and bus station. Work was pretty much easy when it was about cleaning tasks. But I discovered really fast wha itâs mean to work in Japan.
