I had originally planned to make a series of anime characters that was inspired by the Tokyo olympics ambassadors. My sister actually got the tickets and was all set to go for it... unfortunately the year didn’t quite go as planned.
Nonetheless, I’m still going ahead with posting it, mostly cos I had so much fun making it and would like to share it!
I remember the last time I was in Japan was in 2009, more than 10 years ago... Been meaning to go there for a while but no chances recently. Only in Japan, one would take a picture with a bush, shaped like Hello Kitty!

I've shown all the anime boys I made - Sailormoon is the only other girl I've made other than Hello Kitty (yes, she is a girl not a cat).
This was my second attempt at making a pleated skirt - made one for Hermione Granger (will show it when I post about my Harry Potter collection). It's really just about making a fan (by having sc at one end and dc at the other end) with rows in back loops only to simulate a pleated appearance.
As you can see, I was first starting off with experimenting the skirt size, matching it against the Astroboy size. It was initially way too big so I had to scale it down. After scaling it down, the pleated appearance was less apparent so I decided to make the edges sharp.
This is her final look - front and back! What do you think of it?

This time, I made something slightly different - I made some pointy hair for Goku and Astroboy. Because, c'mon they would not be recognizable if not for their funky hair. It was actually adapted from another previous character I made - Joker.
Astroboy
Now instead of using picot stitch to create triangles I usually need to attach onto the wig cap, I can seamlessly make a conical shape in the wig cap! Ok, so initially Astroboy’s hair turned out looking like Elvis Presley’s hairstyle. Then I tweaked and made the cone smaller and it turned out much better.
He has one over the vertex of his head and another over the posterior aspect. This is how he turned out:
Goku from Dragon Ball
Goku’s hairstyle was even more complex because he has multiple sharp pointy edges to his hair! I settled for making three over the right side and two over the left side. Plus his sharp fringe as well - which was essentially 2 triangular picot stitches. I did all this in one continuous stitch! Don’t really like add-ons or sewing much...
Also added in his eyebrows for good measure and a slightly pointy chin as well. Ta-da! Looks like him? I’m pretty happy with his hair!
