If Cuphead was guilty of any of any sin, it was greed. After coming upon a small stash of gold coins hidden in a grove of Inkwell Isle, Cuphead had gotten an itch⌠Tonight, after tossing and turning in bed for a few sleepless hours, the elder of the two brothers decided he would try to sneak out undetected, any warnings from Elder Kettle, Mugman, even his own conscience not deterring him away from wanting to hit the casino. What could he say? He was easily drawn in by the bright colours, the jazz music, the sounds of the slots and card tables and the thrill gambling gave him. Maybe he was just a weak willed son of a gun who liked a bit of glitz and glamour, and easy way in to dirty money.
Wearing a trench coat that covered his chin and small frame, as well as a trilby hat over his easily recognizable mug, heâd made his way out the door at a quarter past one... only to run into his little brother down the dark trail outside, whoâd grabbed his arm from behind, making him jump.
âCup!â Mugman snapped. His patience was clearly thinning, from a mix of concern and frustration towards his brotherâs reckless desisions âYou canât honestly be wantinâ to go back there?â
âHow did you--?â Cuphead shook his head- of course heâd know, Mugman knew him better than anyone. "Look, I wonât do anythinâ stupid, I promise! No big stakes. Iâll play a lil craps, maybe someâa machines and be on my way once my pockets run dry, yeah?â He gave Mugman a nervous grin, but his brother obviously wasnât buying into is reassurances.
Tightening the hold on his arm for a brief moment, Mugmanâs grumpy expression didnât sway. âIâm coming too. Youâll probably run into trouble if you go there by yourself, that place is full of The Devilâs lackeys, after all! As well as The Devil himself!â
âThatâs what the disguise is for!â Cuphead insisted, finally sliding out of his brotherâs grip, rubbing the place heâd squeezed with a slightly indignant look. âUh... if youâre coming, youâll be needing one too. Not that you need to come, because Iâll be fine!â Despite that claim, five minutes later, Mugman returned, in a coat and hat similar to his brotherâs, a blue scarf wrapped around his mouth to hide his easily recognizable nose. He felt a little ridiculous, but his brother reassured that lots of people in the casino dressed in weird get-up like this, so theyâd fit right in. Their trip down to Inkwell Hell was a quick one, taking shortcuts and running into very few people along the usually busy streets due to it being so late at night.Â
It was about one thirty by the time they arrived, entering the doors of The Casino and trying their best to look like they belonged there. Mugman wouldnât be partaking in any gambling himself tonight, but it would look a little strange to hang around Cuphead and not take part. Whilst his elder brother headed to a free table, Mugman seated himself on a bar stool, keeping a close eye on anything that looked suspicious. He just hoped no one would seek out conversation with him... or that Cup would draw too much attention to himself.
