Dear @silverlight-art, welcome (back) to the Drarry fandom! Your ask about favorite Drarry fic recs got me thinking about mine, so here's a little list of my faves, as a welcome gift!

This list is by no means a comprehensive list of all the amazing fics that are out there! Friends and mutuals, feel free to reblog with your own favorites <3

Reparations by Saras_Girl (and its sequel, Foundations) - E, 87K Why I rec: I love everything by this author, but the Foundations series has a special place in my heart for its Healer Harry and ex-addict-turned-addiction-counselor Draco and the heart-warming development of their relationship!

A Private Reason for This by Femme - E, 92K Why I rec: amazing case fic with the hottest, most nuanced older Drarry ever. This fic alone is responsible for half my Drarry kinks and headcanons (but I could rec anything by Femme without a second thought!)

dirtynumbangelboy by @magpiefngrl - E, 39K Why I rec: a wonderful fake dating fic, sexy, witty, and full of heart. Draco is so hot in this, and Harry is so gone for him (and vice versa)!

Blood and Fire by @lqtraintracks - E, 45K Why I rec: a foundational second-chance romance for me, and THE sex scene that simultaneously melted and rearranged my brain cells.

Chasing Dragons by the_sinking_ship - E, 99K Why I rec: TSS's writing is fire, and this fic is Exhibit A! Featuring Healer Draco and a dragon tamer Harry who's too hot for his own good (and Draco's)

Down A Hill At High Speed by Tepre - E, 21K Why I rec: Tepre is one of the most unique, beautiful voices in this fandom, and this little fic is the perfect example of what she can do: funny, hot, a little unhinged, until the underlying emotion kicks in and you can barely breathe from it. A masterpiece.

The Exhale by orphan_account - T, 7.5K Why I rec: Harry goes to therapy and Draco is his therapist. I just love(d) the author's writing, full of understated emotion.

Late Bloomers by thistle_verse - E, 13K Why I rec: a gorgeous, emotional Epilogue Compliant fic, where Harry and Draco get a chance to reconnect after their divorces.

Embers by @shiftylinguini - E, 41K Why I rec: THE A/B/O Drarry fic for me. Insanely hot, beautiful, tender. I re-read it regularly <3

Within You Without You by @arminaa8 - E, 40K Why I rec: am I a sucker for depressed Harry and therapist Draco? Yes, yes I am. Despite the tags, this fic is so gentle and comforting. Loved it!

the long game series by @yellowfork - E, 13K + 46K Why I rec: insanely hot, perfect idiots-to-lovers series. Harry and Draco falling in love over sex without realizing it is like catnip to me, and every line of this series delivered!

Talk To Me in French by @fluffyunderneath - E, 65K Why I rec: it's all in the title, really. Harry goes to Paris, Draco speaks French, and the result is the sweetest, funniest, sexiest romcom!

if i could never give you peace by poisonivy206 - E, 17K Why I rec: gorgeous, poignant getting together fic where Harry and Draco are made to work together on a new Auror case.

I only want the ones i envy (I envy) by @porcelainheart3 - E, 14K Why I rec: I adore everything this author writes, and this fic is no exception. Hilarious, sexy, and emotional, feat. idiot fuckbuddies to lovers and a bit of a clothing kink.

Keep tag by @jungeatheart - T, 10K Why I rec: This fic is a RIOT. Imagine the Gryffindor and Slytherin gangs meeting up for a game of laser tag for Ron’s bachelor party and you’ll get the picture. So funny, and featuring a very unexpected (and sexy) kiss!

Definitely Maybe by @upon-poppyhills - E, 8K Why I rec: what could sex collar shenanigans even hotter? Years of pining, and Harry and Draco being 'forced' to share a bed for the night. Sooo hot and funny!

Of Antlers and Wings by @lexi-leckstar - G, 4K Why I rec: the 'Harry and Draco were friends before Hogwarts' fic I didn't know I needed. Gentle, wholesome and so heartwarming!

Say I'm The One You Want by @phoebe-delia - T, 697 words Why I rec: okay, maybe i'm not objective here because this little fic was a lovely unexpected gift, but I adored Draco's 1st person POV, laughed out loud so many times, and had to clutch my heart at the ending. The sweetest!

Last First Kiss by @sassy-cissa - E, 25K Why I rec: with a Curse Breaker Harry and a Draco who's hired to layer the protective charms Harry will need for his missions, this one was so funny and original, and featured one of my favorite house elves OC ever!

Prompt: Fair

September “Robards did what?” Ron splutters, nearly chocking on his beer.

Harry doesn’t want to say it again. He really doesn’t.

“Robards paired you with Malfoy?” Ron repeats slowly as he stares at Harry in horror.

Harry nods.

Ron’s mouth falls open. “What the fuck.”   

“It’s only for a few months. For training. Until we earn our badges.” Harry sighs. “Apparently we are ...compatible.”  

“Fuck, mate. How’s that fair that you of all people get stuck with the bloody ferret?”

Harry stares into his glass as he might find the answer there. He drains the last of it. It leaves a sour taste in his mouth.

Ron is right. It’s not fair. It fucking isn’t.  

October Harry hears them. Malfoy must hear them too--the snickers, the barely muffled snide remarks – “He doesn’t belong here. ...Unacceptable. ... should never have been allowed to enrol...Bloody unfair.”

The other trainees are not exactly discreet. He sees their sneers behind Malfoy’s back, the way their mouths twist in disgust as he walks past them. Malfoy never rises to it, pretends he doesn’t hear, keeps his head down.  

He works the hardest out of them all.

That takes courage, Harry thinks.

January Harry startles awake. He blinks, disoriented. He turns his face and sees Malfoy beside him, sitting in silence, a finger to his lips.

What--?

“Shush,” Malfoy whispers.

It comes back to Harry then. The stakeout. They’ve been sitting here for hours, trapped in a space no bigger than a closet, waiting for God knows what. “Shit, sorry. I must have dozed off,” Harry muttered, yawning.

“Tell me something I don’t know, Potter.”

 Harry rubs his face. “I’ll take over.”

“It’s fine. I’ve got it. I’ll wake you if anything happens.”

“Come on, it’s only fair. I’m not letting you do the whole night.”

“Potter, I’m not tired. You sleep more. You need it.”

Harry wonders how Malfoy knows, but he does need it. The night before had been hard, as it still is sometimes, riddled with nightmares and insomnia.  He tries to stay awake, he really does, but his eyes are heavy and soon enough his head drops. It lands on Malfoy’s shoulder.

Malfoy is stiff but does not push him away.

He smells nice, Harry thinks before drifting off.

March “Why’d you do that?” Harry calls after Malfoy as they leave Robards’s office.

Malfoy doesn’t slow and Harry has to catch his arm to stop him. “Malfoy.”

“What?” He turns and looks at some vague spot behind Harry’s head.

“Why did you cover for me? Why did you lie? You didn’t have to do that. I’m the one who screwed up.”

“I don’t know. It—it didn’t seem fair.” Malfoy meets his eyes then, “We’re a team. Aren’t we? Isn’t it what partners do?”

Harry’s chest tightens.

May The Auror uniform is dark navy. Harry traces the golden embroidered words on his heart – Junior Auror Potter. He smiles then heads to the Leaky.

The pub is a sea of dark navy uniforms. It’s loud and joyful, and Harry feels alive.

Pints are raised, backs are clapped, congratulations are shouted across the room.

Harry loses track of how many pints he had. His head is fuzzy, he’s happy.

“Congratulations, Auror Potter.”

Harry jumps. He turns and sees him. Draco’s smile is big and bright. Harry’s eyes drift down to the words stitched into the fabric—Junior Auror Malfoy.  Blue suits him. It really fucking suits him.

Merlin.

Alcohol is pumping through Harry’s veins, warm and reckless. He steps closer.

“It’s unfair how good you look in this.”

June “It’s against regulation, Harry,” Draco says as he pushes him away.

Harry chases his lips. “Just one kiss.”

Draco rolls his eyes. “No”

“Jesus, you’re uptight. You’re ridiculously strict when it comes to rules, you know that. How am I supposed to resist when you’re there walking around all day in your bloody uniform.”

Draco rolls his eyes again but his mouth twitches upwards.

“Life’s unfair,” Harry whines. “Can’t a guy kiss his boyfriend?”

Draco freezes. He stares at Harry with wide eyes, then walks straight towards him, grabs his face in both hands and kisses him.

Okay. Fine.

Like almost literally everyone on Tumblr, my brain has been taken over by Heated Rivalry. I've been hyper fixating like an obsessive, fanatical loon and I need a break before I completely LOSE it !! So what's better than going back to my roots and hyper-fixate on two other beautiful idiots instead?

So without further ado, here is a list of my all time favourite one shot drarry fics. I have a deep love for short fics. They're the perfect bedtime companion with the added benefits that they won't ruin my sleep schedule. I really admire authors who manage to express so much in so few words and I wanted to shower my love for them today.

You know the way sometimes you clutch your chest at the end of a fic and think "Oh, my heart". Well ... this is how I felt reading this fic for the first time, and every single time after that too (I read this fic like a zillion times). Draco takes care of a broken Harry. It's a beautiful hurt/comfort read. Tender and soft and simply beautiful.

Invisible by Phoenixstrike - 2.6k

This one is from Ginny's POV. There's infidelity (and a threesome) so it's not for everyone, but the writing is absolutely brilliant. It's a dialogue free fic and the author does such a great job with it. It's angsty and intense, and your heart will break a little for Ginny.

Heat of the moment by @writcraft - 2k

This one is A/B/O which is not a trope I often read, but man, this short fic is perfection. There's urgency, desperation, and it's hot and sexy and tender at the same time. It's truly the perfect mix of hot and sweet.

I wanted to remain under 5k for this post but I love this fic so much that I had to include it. It's a wonderful fully epistolary fic that spans over several years with lots of pining, and yearning and misunderstandings and regrets. Even if epistolary is not your thing, give this one a go, you won't regret it. To me, it's a truly romantic fic. It will leave you with a full heart and the biggest smile.

Draco at nineteen by birdsofshore - 5k

This fic is delicious !!! Harry from the future visits Draco on his nineteenth birthday and things get steamy. A very hot, fun, time-travel one shot. The only downside is that you'll crave for more and be dying for a sequel.

Oblivate me from your bed by @lqtraintracks - 300 words

I'll finish by throwing one last into the mix. A micro-fic because ... I mean ... micro fics are hard, you know. How do you do to hit the feels in less than 300 words? Well ... just ask lqt.
