Bonus: Bughead + The Red and Black

I’m totally cheating, but here is a scene that I wrote early on (out of order as always), but I decided later needed to be changed once I started cementing my outline. Heads up for spoilers for The Lady of the Manor, since something like this will be happening, but it will play out differently when we get there.

“Betty?” When she looked up, her face was ashen, desolate. “What’s wrong?”

Slowly she stepped toward him and placed her hand on his cheek. A shiver ran through him. His eyes flickered shut, focusing only on the warmth of her hand.

“Jughead,” she whispered, so quiet that if they hadn’t been in an abandoned hallway, he wouldn’t have heard it at all.

“Yes?” He blinked his eyes open. She was already watching him, her eyes brilliant even with just a small lamp light illuminating them.

“I know this is inappropriate. If my attentions are unwanted, please, tell me so.” As she spoke she drifted closer to him, almost completely closing the gap between them. Jughead bent forward, so that her face was just below his.

“If that’s what you need me to say, I will,” he whispered.

“I want you to tell me the truth,” she insisted. Her hand was still against his cheek, and he could feel a sudden tremor run through it.

“Then there’s nothing I want more than your attention, Betty. I don’t care if-”

Before he could finish his sentence, her lips were on his, her hands moving to take hold of his collar. He put his hand on her waist and re-positioned her against the wall, deepening the kiss.

“Oh, is this the last one?” she asks as they simultaneously approach the last package of toilet paper on the shelf.

“You take it,” he tells her. “I’m sure I’ll find more somewhere else.”

Rumors of impending quarantine have been ramping up in the past week, so it seems that everyone’s trying to secure the essentials before isolation.

“Oh, I couldn’t do that,” she says, shaking her head. “Let’s split it. After we pay, I’ll open it up and give you three.”

“No, really, that’s alright. I have to go to Costco after this anyway,” he assures her.

“Well, I could actually use a few things from there if you wouldn’t mind me joining you? If you let me use your membership I’ll make it worth your while.”

It’s the wink that tips him off.

“Are you… hitting on me?” he asks in shock.

“Well, if we’re gonna be stuck at home the next few weeks, I can think of a few ways to kill time that would be much more fun if I wasn’t alone,” she says suggestively.

He’s turning his head back and forth wildly as she’s talking to him.

Finally he sees her. “Betty!”

She turns to his voice and pushes the large Target cart over with two kids in the seats, a toddler sitting in the basket, and a baby strapped onto her back.

“Betty, she’s hitting on me!” he whispers to her excitedly.

“I’m so sorry about him,” his wife apologizes to the woman.

Hello you dynamic dino of delight! 

Uhm, uh. Romantically? Nothing as a main pairing, tbh (unless it’s about Val and I, that girl crush is deep and it’s real). 

On a platonic level, there is nothing that has been more fun for me lately than writing a Reggie/Jug bromance. Every brooding author type with more sarcasm than patience needs a loyal himbo to keep his life a little lighter.

Ooooo that’s a tough one. I think it has to encompass everything I like in the fic and leave me wanting more yet feeling fulfilled if that makes sense.

Some of the things that hook me and keep me coming back to reread it are:

Bughead obviously, but a good solid pairing that makes sense.

BANTER AND HUMOR! A must have and a big draw for me!

Adult content (I’m a heathen 🤷🏼‍♀️)

No cheating or revenge sex, etc for the main pairing.

I like some angst but I don’t like it to be drawn out forever or be angst that is thrown in for drama that doesn’t make sense. I like well written angst and prefer personal or thriller/mystery type angst over relationship angst with the main pair. Though I’m not against some relationship angst if it suits the story and characters.

Romance and fluffy moments.

Maybe a trope or two, love a good trope.

Good supporting characters, and if they’re funny that’s a bonus for me.

Just a great general storyline.

I’m a sucker for bughead babies eventually too.

And a happy ending.

Rescue Mission 

“Thank you for doing this, Betts.” Jughead says as he looks down the hallway to make sure no one is coming as Betty picks the lock.

Betty is still focusing on the task at hand but still manages to smile up at him briefly.“I love going on on impromptu adventures with you. Even if it’s a rescue mission for your laptop, and we’re technically breaking and entering.”

Jughead blushes but is still proud that this isn’t the first time Betty has picked a lock for him. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing you pick locks.”

Betty rolls her eyes but smiles brightly. The lock clicks signaling that the door to the classroom is now unlocked.“Well, if you don’t stop using your laptop during class, you’ll get plenty more opportunities. “

“I simply write when I get the flow. It’s Mr.Beaker’s fault for teaching while I write.” 

Betty picks the lock to the desk, and in no time she finds Jughead’s beloved laptop. 

“Yet another success, and your laptop is safe.” Betty says as she hands Jughead his laptop.
