Bughead & Friends Drabble Challenge: Day 4 | Prompt: Are YOU the babysitter?
[this turned into a mini-shot, oops]
“Mom, Dad—Jellybean does not need a babysitter while you’re away!” Jughead argued. “I am perfectly capable of taking care of my own sister.”
“Need I remind you of the last time, when you two set the living room on fire?” Gladys asked, giving him an irate glare. Jughead cleared his throat awkwardly and Jellybean snickered off to the side.
"Stay home, boy, and try not to blow anything up, okay?” FP said, rushing him and Gladys out the door. “And play nice with the babysitter—she’ll be here soon.”
“Who’ll be here soon?” he asked, but they were already out the door. He sighed, looking over at Jellybean and adding, “Sorry JB, I tried.”
But she had this smug smile on her face as she replied, “It’s fine. I don’t mind.”Â
“You hate babysitters,” he said, frowning.Â
“Not this one!”Â
He narrowed his eyes at his sister. “What did you do?”Â
The doorbell rang and Jellybean shot up with an excited grin. “She’s here!”
“Who’s—” He cut himself off when Jellybean opened the door, revealing her in the doorway. “You?” he said, glaring in her direction. “You’re the babysitter?”
She rolled her eyes and glared back. “Congrats, Jones, looks like your single braincell is working today.”
“Bettyyyyy!!!” Jellybean jumped Betty with a big hug. “I’m so happy you said yes!”
“I’m so glad you offered!”
Jughead shook his head in total disbelief. “Wait a minute, JB—you arranged this?”
"I...may have suggested it,” Jellybean said with a shrug. “Betty is Riverdale High’s star student—Mom and Dad couldn’t have said yes quicker.”Â
Jughead laughed dryly, looking Betty up and down with as much hate as he could muster. “You expect me to stay in the same house as her—for a whole week?”
“I’m not thrilled to be stuck with you either, so get over it.” Betty strolled right up to him and loudly plopped her duffle bag on the floor between them, just to piss him off. “You’re not even going to help me with my bags? Where’s the hospitality, Forsythe?”Â
Oh, how he hated that name, and she knew it. He stepped closer, narrowing his eyes. “You’re on the wrong side of the tracks if you’re expecting hospitality, princess.”
“Hey, hey, hey!” Jellybean wormed her way in between them and pushed them apart. “How about, Betty—you go make yourself comfortable in the bedroom. And Jughead—you just...stay in a different room until I’m back with dinner from Pop’s.” She pushed Betty towards the bedroom and Jughead towards the living room. “Try not to kill each other while I’m gone, okay?”Â
“No promises!” they both shouted in reply. As soon as door shut, Betty popped her head out of the bedroom, locking eyes with Jughead and asking, “Think she bought it?”
His eyes sparkled mischievously as he replied, “Oh, she bought it. Get over here.”
Betty squealed with excitement, sprinting over and jumping into his arms. “One—whole—week!” she exclaimed between kisses.Â
He smiled into her hair. “I cannot believe you’re JB’s sitter—how are we going to keep this a secret if she’s around all the time?”
Betty pushed him back onto the couch and hopped into his lap with a wicked grin, kissing him deeply before saying, “We’ll just have to be very, very, sneaky...”Â

“Not a chance.” Betty says as she flops onto her bed with no grace.
Alice scoffs “You haven’t even met this one yet.” She says as she starts fanning out Betty’s dress that is getting crinkled under her.
“I don’t need to know I don’t want to be married to him.”
“This is the third one this month you’ve turned down.” Alice huffed as she angrily smoothed the creases in Betty’s dress. “Soon no one will want to wed you. I”m appalled that you even have suitors with the way you behave. ”
“Good. I don’t even want to be married.” Betty says even though it’s half the truth. She doesn’t want to be married to any of the suitors her mother has chosen, but she is to be wed of the suitor of her choice. “Our family is in good fortune especially with who Polly married which she got to choose by the way.”
“That’s because your sister doesn’t need to be taught how to be a lady, and she can choose appropriate suitors.”
“Well it’s a good thing Polly chose for the both of us. Besides you can’t make me marry.”
“Then consider your ties with your family severed.”
“That’s fine by me.” Betty says calmly. Even if it wasn’t the fifth time her mother threatened to disown her, Betty will not sacrifice her free will so that her family which is already perfectly comfortable financially can profit off her when she already has a different future in mind.
“Fine.” Alice huffed as she stormed off. Â
“You know you are going to have to tell her eventually.” Polly says from the entry of Betty’s room.
“I’m not sure what you mean.” Betty says cooly even though she already knows what Polly means.
“That you have already given your hand in marriage.” Polly says as she gracefully sits on Betty’s bed, and lowers her voice for the next part. “To Forsythe Pentleton Jones the third.”
Jughead was burning up for two reasons.  One, the hundred degrees of dry heat that decided to hit Riverdale. And two…Betty Cooper.
He mentally kicked himself when he saw Betty strip down to her pink bikini, winking at him from across the swimming hole before diving in. This was absolutely dumbest thing I’ve ever done, Jughead concluded miserably.  And he’s done a lot of dumb things. Â
But a no-sex bet? This was by far his worst decision. And suggesting they take a swim to cool off? Extra stupid. Of course Betty decided to wear her teeniest, tiniest bikini.Â
She was trying to win the bet.Â
He thought that if he didn’t touch her, then maybe could make it through the day without losing his mind. Yeah, he thought confidently. I could do that. No touching.
But that confidence lasted for a fat two seconds, because the moment she swam up to him, he got a glimpse at her skimpy, soaked bikini top—and he wanted to do so much more than touch her.Â
She gave him a wicked smile as she snaked her arms around his neck, hopping up so she could wrap her legs around his waist. “You look a bit tense, Juggie. Something wrong?”
“Of course not,” Jughead replied cooly. Tease, he thought. But then, an idea formed in his mind. Two can play that game. Â
Her smug smile faltered when he suddenly pulled her body flush against his, letting his hands wander under the water. Betty nervously cleared her throat, averting his gaze. “What are you doing?” she said lowly.
“I’m just...enjoying the water.” He smirked, leaning in closer to place a few kisses on her neck. He couldn’t but grin as he added:
Bughead & Friends Drabble Challenge: Day 3 | Prompts: Awkward Date + Someone Else
Did she really agree to this date, just to get him off of her mind? Yes, yes she did.Â
She thought maybe if she went out with Trev Brown, then maybe—just maybe—she’d forget about the stupid hot serpent boy that was constantly on her mind; she needed to forget about him.
But damn, this date was just so awkward, the whole time.
As she sat there in a booth at Pop’s listening to Trev ramble on about football and jock things, she realized they had zero things in common. Trev didn’t read books or have an interest in writing or mysteries...like someone else did.
Her plan totally failed, even at the very end when Trev gave her a goodnight kiss on her doorstep. She couldn’t even kiss him back because all she could think about was how much she wished he was Jughead.
She was so engrossed in her own miserable thoughts that she didn’t even notice he was in the room until she heard him say:
“Wow, you call that a kiss? C’mon Cooper—you and I have better chemistry eye-fucking each other in the hallway.”
She whirled around in surprise, seeing Jughead Jones sitting on her window-seat. He gave her a smug smile and added, “Either I have absolutely ruined you for other guys, or he’s just a terrible kisser—because I know you can do better than that.”
“Good morning Elizabeth.” Jughead chirps as he leans against the pillar of the porch outside the Cooper household.Â
“It most certainly was. What do you have to complain about today?” Betty snarks. This is common talk between them as they have never seen eye to eye.Their families have business with one another so they have to be in each other’s company quite a lot.He thinks she is too uptight, and she thinks he’s insufferable. However, despite their frequent quips neither of them can go a day without talking. Though he’ll never admit it he finds her to be quite nice to be around.
“I heard talk that Archibald proposed.” Jughead says trying not to sound disdained. “I assume congratulations are in order.”
“No reason to celebrate.” Betty says looking out at the rain. “I turned him down.” Betty says calmly as if turning down a proposal from one of the wealthiest estates in Riverdale was normal from an unwed women of her young age.Â
“Why?” Jughead tries not to look hopeful. It’s not like he would ever ask her to marry him, and even if she did she would never accept. Still sometimes he exercises that thought. Maybe if they both weren’t so stubborn.
“I don’t want to be married.” Betty says, and Jughead feels his hope diminish. “To someone I don’t know and care for that much, but if the person I have in mind were to come to his senses and wasn’t stubborn than maybe.” Betty concludes looking directly at him.Â
Jughead wished he were sitting at this moment, because he feels as if his knees are going to give out from surprise.

“ You did not.” Jughead gasps to which Betty looks down and blushes. “Betty Cooper, you did not steal the couch cushions from the couch in the Blue and Gold.”
“I had to, Juggie. Mr. Weatherbee is having it removed tomorrow,” Betty says still looking down. Jughead starts laughing and before she knows it he’s gasping for air with tears running down his cheeks which she hardly sees him laugh that hard. His laughter is contagious and though Betty fights it, she starts laughing too. Â
“I’m sorry, Betty. It’s just so funny that you had to haul both cushions into your car and all the way home.” Jughead laughs even harder.
“It’s not even that funny.” Betty crosses her arms but is red in the face from laughing. “That couch had a lot of memories, and I just wanted to remember it.”
Jughead stops laughing though he’s smiling fondly and takes a deep breath. He tilts Betty’s chin up to look at him. “I’m honored you stole for the name of love, and just so you know I treasure those memories made on that couch.”
Betty blushed at the thought. “At least I have new cushions for my bay window.” She mumbles, but Jughead’s smile only grows.
“Then we can make more memories on that couch.”
[An excerpt that will be going into my spy fic, Under the Radar]
"I’m going on this rescue mission.”
“You’re most definitely not going.”
“He has my sister, Jughead!” Betty exclaimed. They had been arguing for the last ten minutes, and she was exhausted and angry.
Jughead was pacing back and forth, gripping his hair in frustration as he shouted back, “That is exactly why you cannot go on this mission!”Â
She was now totally confused, and a little annoyed that he was shouting at her. “What?”
Jughead spun around suddenly, approaching her with three quick steps.  “You can’t go,” he repeated, his voice now lowered to a whisper. He surprised her by taking her hands in his. “He is too dangerous, and you are too close to this. You could get hurt and—I don’t think I could handle that.”
“How do you think I feel?” she said. “You could get hurt, too, going off by yourself. And I don’t like it. We’re supposed to be partners—aren’t we?”
“Of course we are—”
“Then let’s do this. Together, okay? As partners,” she emphasized, giving his hands a squeeze.Â
She saw him clenching his jaw, clearly struggling with the idea, before he finally let out a long sigh. “Okay,” he agreed, searching her face carefully. “Partners.”
“I don’t know.” Betty says as she skeptically eyes the motorcycle in front of her.
“Are you doubting my teaching skills?” Jughead asks with an arched eyebrow. He’s grinning widely and Betty would roll her eyes at his smugness if she wasn’t so charmed by it.
“No.” Betty says primly. “But riding is different than driving.” She never expected herself to even ride a motorcycle let alone drive one.Though there is a lot she never expected to do or experience, and she trusts Jughead with all that she knows. Plus, it would be nice to spend more time with Jughead not that they needed any excuse as they practically spend all their time together.
“It’s up to you, Betts.” Jughead says as he eases his hand on her shoulder. She knows he is comfortable with whatever she is, but she trusts him with her life. “Though I think it would almost be as sexy as that time you showed me how to drive a stick shift.”
