Castiel wasn’t one to keep his thoughts trained on one particular person. That was almost nearly impossible with what Dean had dubbed the ‘Angel Radio’ constantly blaring in his head.

And yet you… You were almost always on his mind. Ever since the day he’d brought you up from Hell, just a mere week before Dean himself. And yet… Only you were on his mind even as he tried to focus on the task he’d been given.

Days passed at first. And then weeks, and then months, and... then years.

Sometimes he called. Sometimes he thought you’d answer, only to realize it was just your voicemail. No matter what, he left small voicemails, ones that said he’d tried his best, even if you didn’t remember him, that he was sorry you weren’t able to get to know him.

But finally-- finally, his will broke. His will to stay away from the human that could break things apart and ruin everything that his faction was trying its damnedest to keep together.

Castiel sought you out, and when he saw you, just across the street from himself, he felt the urge to call out. But the best he could manage was a weak, “Hello... from the other side...”

And then, with the tiniest of waves and a smile that he hoped you had seen, he was gone in the blink of an eye.

“I’m sorry.” He whispered to himself, though the words were meant for you. “I’m sorry, and I hope you live a good life without my interference.”
