âOnce more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;â
I donât think we talk enough about how sad and touching this caption is.
This quote is from Henry V. At the beginning of the play the chorus sets the stage and acknowledges how bare and lackluster the set and props are and invites the audience to play pretend with them and imagine them in the grander circumstance of their story. Itâs a play about a war and Henry gives the âOnce more unto the breech dear friends, once moreâ speech as his army starts losing and it inspires them, but they are forced to retreat. That night the chorus describes Henry disguising himself to find out what his men really think. He visits every tent to comfort them and âthawâ their cold fear. The chorus speaks with such adoration and praise of him and says, âBehold, as may unworthiness define, A little touch of Harry in the night.â At this point they all know theyâre badly outnumbered and Henry, having realized the burden of being king, prays for God to steel his soldierâs hearts. They go on to win the war.
Supernatural as a show and a story has always been an underdog. Itâs closer to a cult classic than being a mainstream favorite and itâs about working class heros doing big, world-saving jobs. And the actors spent so much time with the fans and shared so much of themselves. Like the chorus calling king Henry, Harry, the fans got to know the actors so closely these past 15 years. I mean, itâs called the spnfamily for a reason. Itâs such a touching caption because Henry was such a loving and beloved king and I could leave it there. Iâd like to. But thereâs more.
Iâd like to preface that this is all speculation. I donât know how intimately Jensen knows Shakespeare and this is one of the most quoted lines of Shakespeare but hereâs the beginning of that monologue, anyway. Just for fun:
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead! In peace thereâs nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility,
Itâs interesting considering the last episode is after the big battle is all done. The boys SHOULD be at peace. No one is calling them to battle but they seek one out anyways, and we all know how that ends.Â
But what if this isnât about that? What if Jensen really fought for Dean to have his happy ending and THATâs the battle? Jensen has been so quiet (âmodest stillness and humilityâ) and we know he was unhappy with Deanâs fate, so maybe heâs made his peace with it. The line, â Or close the wall up with our English dead! â could even be closing that door and leaving the story dead and done. BUT in this same post he says this is his last time playing Dean Winchester âfor now,â and even though they lose this one, this isnât king Henryâs final battle. He ends up winning the war.
So is this another clue in the the Supernatural season 16 conspiracy? I donât know. Speculation aside itâs a lovely sentiment but all things considered, I think Shakespeare put it best. This is picking up RIGHT where we left off in that monologue:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, Disguise fair nature with hard-favored rage,
Henry is rallying his men for war and while Jensen may not be leading us into battle, this is a message meant to inspire people who are fighting for their lives and the C*W/mainstream media has buried us for long enough.
lol not everyone can be dj qualls
Be hilarious if Jensen requested a pseudonym be put on his directed episode of Walker.
Jared: *looks at production list* Whoâs âHugh Janusâ? O.o
Jensen: I donât want my name attached to this episode, so I chose a fake one with enough sarcastic innuendo to let people know I didnât wanna do this project.
