i think the most critical thing to understand (and this may not be news to you, or it may not be agreeable) is that a planet being in a detrimental sign or even in its fall isn’t the same thing as the forces and energies that planet represents being weakened, strictly. it’s not an issue of learning to live with a weakness to be compensated for so much as learning to live with a vexation, a complication. it’s learning to live with a contradiction and learning how to confront and reconcile that in your life.

so, when mars is is in cancer that doesn’t mean the independent, combative aspects of mars are missing so much as that they are rooted in a place where it is not easy to live with them being rooted, but where they still may be entirely needed at times. mars burns up the bonds cancer tries to form and it’s stifled by the nurturing side of cancer but some bonds need to be burned and some fights need to be surrendered. alternatively, some bonds can’t survive without being tested and some fights can’t ever be surrendered because they are too deep and too personal and too close and here mars in cancer can be useful, too.
