Through Hell and High Water. Marlene&Severus
Severus wasn’t totally sure what this latest action was supposed to entail. He understood why of course. If one of them was caught and only knew their own part in it, they couldn’t implicate anyone else. And no traitor could ruin everything. Also if anyone did make a mistake it was easy to identify who it had been or who had betrayed the cause.
He was entirely too intellectual for this sort of thing. He was Marked for god’s sake. He was supposed to be part of the bright shining new future where no one was punished for pursuing knowledge. Even if that knowledge had been labelled Dark. He wasn’t supposed to be doing grunt work standing here in a side alley and keeping people away. Greyback could do this. Get the psychopaths to do this. They were always eager to harm others and give the rest of them a bad name. He didn’t want to be doing this. He wanted, in all honesty to keep his hands thoroughly clean of blood. He knew there were necessities, Casualties of war, some things needing to be burnes before they could be rebuilt…But he didn’t want to be here.
He couldnt even smoke. The mask didn’t allow it without the exhaled smoke largely migrating up to his eyes and making them water. He wriggled his toes in his boots, the sigh echoing strangely in the mask.
And then there were footsteps and from his position in the shadows, with his unpolished mask to reduce gleam, he saw someone running. Someone who definitely was not on his side. Had never really been on his side, even when they had both been Lily’s friends. They had worked together once, a lapse of judgement on both their parts.
Not today though. He stepped out, wand drawn and levelled at her, “the street is closed for an event.” And he very carefully made sure he didn’t call her by her name this time.
