âHey shortie!â She called, trying to catch up with the blond haired boy that was getting into the limousine right by the end of the street. âHey, I called you!â She said with a friendly tone, increasing her pace as she saw he was waiting. âYou donât have to call me that to get my attentionâ he teased her, but of course none of his words could make her flustered. The girl got in the car and sat right next to a scary looking bodyguard that was staring intensely at her. âGood morning!â She said with a big, happy smile, replied with a pat on her head. Marinette didnât have to get a lift by Adrienâs limo, but they passed by her school on their way, and every chance she had to spend time with her little friend was a blessing. âSo, what are they going to shoot now? Bathing suits or just summer collection?â âActually itâs fall collection, father wants to try some clothes before he chooses the final combinationâ âWhat?! But summer hasnât started yet! Not to mention fall! Thatâs amazing!â Adrien knew how much the girl loved hearing about fashion - she could listen to his stories about his fatherâs work for days, and loved imagining all kinds of styles that might be in fashion some day. Heck, she even started to learn sewing a few weeks ago. As they continued to blabber about how black and red is a winning combination, the car came to a stop. Adrien got out of the car to clear the path for Marinette, and as she came out, their height difference couldnât be clearer. âHa! Still taller than you!â She tried to mess with him, but the boy didnât give up- âBy how much? 1, 2 millimeters?â âMore like 4 centimetersâ she laughed. âI can make it upâ he said with a determined smile. âIn your dreams! I bet youâll be married by the time youâd catch up!â âSo what youâre basically saying is, if I catch up, Iâll get married?â âIf you say soâ she replied with a teasing voice. âSo if I grow taller than you like this-â he gestured with his hand- âyouâll marry me right?â âHow âbout we see if the time actually comes, shortie?â âDeal! And than youâll have to look me in the eye and admit your defeat!â As Marinette left the schoolâs driveway and got to the gates, she couldnât possibly imagine that would be her last talk with her treasured friend. But it was. On the next day the limo wasnât waiting for her at the spot. Some neighbor told her Adrienâs family went through a tragedy or something, and that he heard his father flipped and strengthened the rules, and decided to prevent Adrian from meeting outsiders. Marinette was broken, but like every other childhood friendship, at the end it was all just a hazy memory. As the years went by, Marinette grew up and met some new friends, remembering her childhood friend from time to time (usually because he was on some covers of fashion magazinesâŠ), and wondering how his lifeâs been. And then suddenly, something very unexpected happened. It was the first day of school, a very exciting day for every teenager that hasnât seen his classmates for 2 months. The teacher was shushing the students so she could read their names, but as she said the first name, Marinetteâs heart skipped a bit. âAdrien Agreste? No? So I guess heâs not here.â And just when Marinette thought she dreamt it, a blond haired, tall boy, ran right into class. And ho man, he was tall. It hit her like a hammer in the heart- he was okey! And he was damn hotter in real life! Marinette couldnât think about anything at all, and as the teacher read her name, it took a few embarrassing moments for her to stop daydreaming and reply. âPresent!â She said, cheeks reddening. The blond turned his head with an awe struck look in his eyes, searching for the girl in the crowd of students until he locked his gaze on Marinette. The two couldnât break the long stare of amazement, not moving a muscle âtill the teacher told the students to listen to class and everyone quietened up. At the moment class was over, Marinette and Adrien ran towards each other and got into a long hug. They hugged for a few moments before they started speaking- âI canât believe it! I thought Iâll never see you again!â Marinette said with visible excitement in her voice. âMe too! What are the possibilities that weâll be in the same class?â The two stared a each other with a warm fuzzy feeling echoing around them for a few moments. Marinette was the one to break the silence - âSo⊠Still modeling I guess?â âWell, of course, havenât you seen me on some magazine covers?â âWell, yes -â she said, embarrassed, not knowing how to finish the sentence. ââŠAnd you, still loving fashion?â âActually, Iâm planning on becoming a fashion designer when I grow up.â Adrien was filled with joy he couldnât hide. He knew that this was going to happen from the start, and he was eager to tell her - âI figured that would happenâ he said with a satisfied grin, to which Marinette had to reply: âOh yeah? Well I knew you were going to be a successful model from the start!â âThen I guess we both havenât changed a bitâ âBut we have -â Marinette said, stopping before finishing the sentence, and blushing a bit at the thought her friend got so tall. âYeah, you couldnât see me before -â he said in a teasing voice as he measured her height- âdo you see me now?â
Height Difference AU
It was another day. Â Mitch laid in bed despite the sun having long risen. Â The suite he rented was more than expensive but the woman at the desk the night before had annoyed him since he didnât look like he could pay for a cheap motel. Â Paris was more than awake as it was lunchtime. Â The night before forgotten since he had spent it alone. Â Having only been in Paris for a couple days he hadnât done much and had not been walking around much. Â He didnât speak the language but could get by as he tended to do.
Moving in the bed he realized he could stretch himself out completely in it. Something was off or maybe he didnât remember how big the bed was. Â Drowning oneâs mind in alcohol tended to do that. Â Always wanting to be forgetting his past it seemed booze was the only way to do it since he didnât want to resort to pills. Â Looking out the window he decided to get out of bed and start his day. There were things to see as he hadnât been in Paris before. Â Standing up and heading for the shower he ducked out of habit not wanting to hit his head on the doorframe. Â Looking back at it it seemed further away, âdamn brain you are drunk this morning.â Standing in the shower he closed his eyes and didnât think about anything except the torments his mind felt he needed. Â Fortunately it wasnât much as his mind was not really awake and he didnât slip away from the world. Â
Reaching for the towel he frowned when he couldnât reach where he had put it with his usual ease. Â Looking in the mirror he realized he didnât have to look down as he normally would. Â âWhat the hell?â Â Digging in his suitcase he pulled jeans and a t-shirt out as he didnât feel like dressing up. Â Sitting on the bed he tossed the shirt on and pulled the pants on. Â âOkay something is seriously fucked.â Â The pants were too long to the point he would have to roll them up. Â Trying to figure out if he was just still drunk or something else was afoot he sat there looking at his feet trying to figure out if they were smaller too. Slipping his shoes on he sighed in relief as they fit. Â The shirt was longer than he remembered. Â Standing in the room he went into the bathroom without ducking and looked in the mirror again. Â The dark circles under his eyes were huge and his eyes red from how much he was drinking everyday. Â âWell what other craziness do I have to look forward to today?â
Going downstairs and out to the street people were walking around and things looked normal to him but Mitch was more than confused as things were at the wrong level.  Not wanting to bother with a cab since they were smaller in Europe he started walking down the sidewalk and realized he wasnât looking down on most everyone. Not wanting to appear out of place he didnât say anything but was looking at his phone for a moment to find a cafĂ© for lunch.  After being seated his back started hurting as he sat in the simple outdoor chair and it made no sense as he looked confused and annoyed as he studied the menu. Being a tourist area the menu was in English fortunately.
He kept looking around taking in the other patrons but never focusing on any particular one. Â Placing his order he kept shifting in the chair trying to be comfortable and the waitress was looking at him wondering what the problem was but Mitch smiled at her to indicate things were fine. Â
Mitch didnât notice the other man sitting several tables away except to glance at him once and put his mind elsewhere. Â The height of the table was wrong and he set the glass of water down hard not meaning to but only one person seemed to notice as he closed his eyes letting his mind wander and try to understand what was going on. Â The morning was gone and ruined so maybe the afternoon would be better. Â Staring openly at the man far away Mitch was making faces but they were only thought and nothing more. Â The smile didnât appear on his face at all as he waited for his lunch.
