Doubt and frustration flooded her mind, responding by untangling herself from the embrace they had each other in underneath the sheets. Her wedding day to the Duke was fast approaching and Oliver was growing ever more distant. Dinah spent the better part of those days trying to move on and to let go of the love she had for Oliver. He wasn’t hers. She wasn’t his. They would never belong to each other. This had to be the end. She couldn’t do this to herself any longer, especially when he presented the cold reality to her next life for her with those words. The Duke had grown suspicious of her behavior with Oliver. Even going as far as making sure that once they were married, they would leave the country and she was forbidden from ever corresponding with Oliver, starting immediately.

“It’s time for you to go.” It really wasn’t. The Duke was on leave which in turn, left them with several nights to start their affair back up again, but it was all beginning to feel too out of reach for her to enjoy. It was a dream, and there was no room for dreaming in this world. In order for him to take her seriously, she used part of the sheets to cover her naked form to get up and retrieve his clothes from the floor,  placing them on the end of the bed. Her way of keeping the distance from them. “I’ll distract the guards when you’re ready.”

“You are beginning to sound like one of us.” Perhaps it was because they’d been spending so much together lately that part of The Watcher’s personality was beginning to rub off on the other. Or perhaps this was the other’s personality coming through. In either case, she was glad that they both agreed on something. But did that mean the others were ready to hear of the truth? Maybe not.

Perhaps that was the kindness that the woman spoke of. She had spent far too long around humans to not be affected by them.

“Do you think it will be easy for them to recover from the truth?” They yearned so long to hear it, but she wondered if many of them would be willing to hear it. Would they cover their ears and pretend they hadn’t heard? Would they yell and scream and as them to change it? Would they prefer The Watcher lie instead? It was hard to gauge, but maybe this was necessary. Pandora was a harsh planet with even harsher truths. If one wasn’t up to scratch already then one was doomed to fail.

“It is not a truth I would wish to relay to them, knowing their penchant for murder.” But if they were going to attempt to assassinate the pair, she figured they would have done so already. There was no point dilly-dallying any longer. The longer they stood here waiting, the more suspicious it would seem.
