Dinah had just gotten off work at the diner early. Every Monday, tuition was due weekly at the Learning Academy that her daughter was enrolled in. What she made in tips covered it fairly, leaving enough to cover weekly essentials and monthly rent. It was always the busiest week of every month, but she surprisingly enjoyed being a working single mother. She found purpose in creating a life with her daughter.
Five years was a long time to change and grow. But, it also took five years for her to get past the heartbreak of losing someone she believed had been the love of her life. Five years to realize, life was never going to be a fairytale. Five years, for life to finally throw a curveball when everything was beginning to feel normal again.
The news was something she always took time to listen to as she sipped her to go coffee, before heading out to pick up her daughter. Finding out that her ex had returned over the weekend was all over the news, since the morning coverage to the noon.
"Youâd think there would be more important matters to cover," she muttered under her breath. Her manager overheard, giving her a sympathetic smile as she handed her the pastry to go with her coffee. "Thanks, Pat. Iâll see you in the..." Voice trailed away after she turned to exit the diner, not expecting to see the very one who was all over the news.
Looks like he figured out where she still works. "I was leaving. If you want to talk, Ollie. My number hasnât changed." Her voice was calm, walking past him to exit the diner.
