until he’s asked, he doesn’t touch dave - knows what flashbacks can be like, what trauma does.  knows that a comforting touch can be perceived as painful, twisted up in the moment as it’s happening, and no reality can stop that.  so he waits, waits for dave’s soft, pleading voice to break the silence, and then he’s nodding, shifting.  he sits upright, shifts until his back is against the headboard, and pulls dave towards him gently, pulls him to klaus’ chest, lets him curl up against klaus’ body.  

        ❛    do  you  happen  to  have  any  siblings,  dave ?    ❜   the  feather  duster  brushes  over  the  framed  (  incomplete  )  family  photo  swiftly,  smiling  fondly  as  she  turns  her  attention  to  their  guest.   ❛    any  brothers  or  sisters  like  klaus  had  while  growing  up ?    ❜

Klaus shouldn’t be here. Like, really shouldn’t be here. He’s not sure if there’s rules about time travel and stuff, but years of sci-fi movies have led him to believe there probably are. What if he accidentally pisses off the wrong person and changes the course of history or something? What if he meets his grandma and pisses her off so much she decides never to have kids? Granted that seems a little unlikely, but hey he never knew his birth family so maybe not. Maybe his granddad is sat in the mess tent with him right now, it’s not like he’d know. The point is this is a terrible situation that he’s only making worse by staying in it. He could say it’s because hes scared of what will happen if he opens the briefcase again, he could end up god knows when and he doesn’t really fancy hanging out with cavemen any time soon. And that is part of it, it is, but it’s also not even nearly the whole reason, because Klaus is looking at that reason now. Dave. Handsome Dave with the kind smile who talked to him on the bus and makes Klaus feel slightly less freaked out about this whole situation. 

Handsome Dave who is, at this second, walking towards Klaus with a tray of whatever passes for food in the mess tent. Klaus tries to look away before Dave can catch him staring, and curses the way he blushes like a fucking schoolgirl with a crush. He really can’t afford to feel like this for Dave, but he’s also too selfish to stop. 

‘   klaus is like everyone else in the academy  (  other than myself  ) ,  he’s SPECIAL .   𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗶𝗺 .   he might put on a brave front sometimes ,  but he’s been broken a lot .   he deserves someone   good   like you to be there .   ’

       oh, he’s cute. and he’s not just cute in that sweet, easy way that klaus is used to. most of his interests are very similar--- quick, simple lays with no real emotional attachment--- and he doesn’t really need a conversation about why that is, thanks. none of that matters because this guy is cute, and he’s cute in a rough soldier-y way that makes klaus’ heartbeat rattle away in his chest in a way that only too much cocaine seems to do. he’s cute in a way that seems just out of reach of klaus’ black-painted fingers and it makes him want him that much more.

       maybe whatever the fuck this is, this terrifying and impossible journey back through time, is something he can stand to live with for a little while. as long as...
