There is nothing better to do for character design when you have a family of two parents and 3 children than to make 2 of the children resemble one parent each and then make the remaining child a mash of their parents.

Also why is Shadepelt an old elder in arc 2?? She was Stonefur's apprentice at the start of the series. Heavystep is her littermate, who was also an apprentice at the start of the series. Huh????
Why is she suddenly too old to travel and not her twin brother, who is young ish???
