“I can’t find Mini Mick or Ray Jr.,” Amaya woke her boyfriend in a panicked voice, her small hands giving his shoulders a little shake. “Surely they couldn’t have made their way off the Waverider... you think?”

“I know you love fire, but this was not what I was going for!” Amaya exclaimed as she tried to bat out the grease fire on the stove with a towel and oven mitts, though the sound of the smoke alarm probably prevented Mick from hearing her. “Maybe we should just order take-out.” A heavy sigh exhaled from her once the heat was smothered thanks to her handy work. As it fizzled, so did the blaring alarm. “I’m sorry, but I don’t think cooking is quite my thing.”

Time had passed since Amaya and Mick realized their futures were woven together more than they had initially expected. It seemed to make them stronger, and her less apprehensive about what might happen to their relationship. She had always feared Mick might decide he preferred not to be with anyone, or at least not tied down to her. Knowing they had created a family at some point in time encouraged both to be more open about everything blossoming between them. With the way the world seemed to be falling apart day after day, it was comforting to have something steady; someone that she could rely on. And though she hadn’t said it vocally, she loved him.
A loud noise jolted Amaya awake, and that’s when she realized the warmth of her burly boyfriend wasn’t at her side. Quickly she sprung to her feet, but tried to remain quiet... just in case they were being attacked. It was a paranoid way to wake up, but these days, Amaya never knew what to expect. Tightly, her fingers clenched around the amulet on her neck as she peeked around the corner, prepared to fight depending on what the commotion was.

Amaya was through and through a romantic, even if her relationships hadn't always had a happy ending. She tried her best not to become romantically entangled with anyone in this time period; it would create too many glitches in the system and she couldn't be the cause of it. Still, watching the bride and groom dance across the floor, surrounded by other loving couples made her pine for something more. Not just with anyone, even if that emotion was a generalized one... there was a particular special someone that she just couldn't get out of her head. And she’d surely tried. No matter how stark the contrast between she and Mick was... and that she doubted he had the same romantic bone in him; Amaya still couldn’t fight it. Stealing a longing glance across the room toward Mick and smoothing her dress, she flashed him a soft smile before refocusing on the dance floor. Thank goodness he couldn't read minds.

Amaya had only ever been in love once before, but she knew the feeling. There was absolutely no doubt in her mind that Mick was her second. Her only other. And she wanted it to stay that way. She feared she might lose him too, but his confirmation-- both in words and the sincerity in his eyes extinguished some of her concern. Amaya’s smile lifted a little more, her breath picking up a bit as Mick closed a bit more distance between them.
“I’m sorry,” she murmured softly, catching his gaze with her own. “It’s not you. I haven’t doubted you for a second,” she promised, lifting a hand to stroke his cheek. “I’m just doubting myself. I see all these women... here,” she looked around briefly before meeting his eyes again. “And sometimes I just feel... dull. Like you might want someone better. More exciting.”
