(Warnings: Some fluff and some shitting on Gavin Reed lol)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âExcuse me, officer?â his smooth voice made you turn around and you were face to face with the one and only detective android. Well, not really, he was technically only a prototype who was assisting on the recent deviant cases, but still. âDo you know when Lieutenant Anderson usually arrives?â he asked politely and you had to take a split second to get over yourself, why the hell did CyberLife have to make him so good looking? And with the perfect voice thatâs like warm honey⌠God, it was almost enough to make you melt, those chocolate brown eyes, warm and sweet⌠âmiss?â he asked again and you blinked, clearing your throat, your thumb playing with a ring on your left middle finger, the ring containing a small chain inside it that could be turned, âyeah, sorry, uh. Iâd say it depends on where heâs been the night before⌠Iâd say⌠around noon?â you guessed with a wince âIâm sorry, Lieutenant Andersonâs schedule is-....â you trailed off when you realized you couldnât find a word that didnât make Hank seem like an inappropriate, late drunkard. Which he very much was, but slandering a coworker isnât exactly professional. âUnique?â the android offered and you chuckled briefly, not noticing the way his LED flashed yellow briefly at the sound of your laugh, a brief unintentional smile flashing on his lips before either of you could notice âthatâs-... one way to put itâ you admitted before stretching out your hand to him âIâm (Y/N) (Y/L/N), by the wayâŚ. I-I donât mean to be rude or anything but-... d-do you-.. have a name?â you asked sheepishly and he gave you a comforting and reassuring smile âyes, Iâm Connorâ he introduced, shaking your hand and you smiled and nodded âitâs a pleasure to meet you, Connorâ you stated, leading him over to Hankâs desk, not seeing the way his LED once again flashed yellow when you smiled at him. âYou can wait here. And-... Hank really is a good man. Heâs-... he might be stubborn and rude, but heâs a good manâ you stated with a sincere smile, Connor nodding, his LED blinking a little as he tried to find the root of your obvious fondness for the senior officer. âYou⌠have a personal relationship with the Lieutenant, is that correct?â he asked and you scoffed with a small chuckle hidden within the scoff, nodding and leaning against the vacant desk across from Hankâs, a smile on your lips as you turned the small chain in your ring absentmindedly âyeah, he was my TO⌠briefly, anyway. I was new here and barely knew anythingâ you remembered with amusement and fondness, looking over his desk with a sad look in your eyes, despite your smile âhe stood up for meâ you added quietly.
Being the youngest cadet to join the force of Detroit, and a woman at that too, was not easy. All the boring, useless crap was always pushed your way, you were stuck on coffee duty as though that was all you could do, you were considering quitting after two years of being humiliated and thrown aside when Hank stepped in⌠in some strange way, he became a father figure⌠a drunken father figure, but a good one, one who was there when you needed it, even if it was 2 am or if Gavin was getting too arrogant around you for Hankâs liking.
Connor took in your look, the sincerity in your eyes, the sadness yet fondness, until you forced a smile up at him âyou can wait here, if you wantâ you offered, getting up and walking to your own desk not too far away, Connor scanning the desk, gathering all the information for storage before walking over to you again, internally using the excuse that you knew the Lieutenant and could maybe give him some pointers on how to best get along with the grumpy Lieutenant. âHave you worked here long?â was somehow what came out of his mouth instead of asking about Anderson, but once again he convinced himself that he was simply starting with small talk to get you comfortable instead or berating you with questions. âAbout five years, almostâ you admitted with a smile as you seemed pleasantly surprised that he had come up to you instead of waiting by the desk silently. âAnd do you enjoy it here?â
âAt first I didnât, but Hank stood up for me, made me like this job. That was three years ago nowâ you admitted, nodding to yourself as you fiddled with your ring, but not in a nervous way, more in an absentmindedly way âthereâs the occasional blowhard, of courseâ you stated with a shrug âand our very own private asshole; Gavin Reed. Or, as I like to call him; Private Dickâ you whispered with amusement, finding Connor smiling at you as well and you grinned âsorry, Iâll let you form your own opinions about the people around here-â
âI think Iâll trust you on that oneâ Connor interrupted cheekily and you laughed quietly, nodding âgood choiceâ you stated, studying him closely and Connor thought he saw you looking at⌠his lips? Perhaps he was malfunctioning? That behavior was something humans did when they were attracted to other humansâŚ. he probably just malfunctioned or something for a split second.
âIâll admit, though⌠Iâm curiousâ you admitted, sitting up straight in your chair and rolling a bit closer as he sat on the edge of your desk âyouâre the only one like you, right?â you asked quietly and he nodded âthat is correct. Iâm an RK800 android prototype, designed to provide assistance on deviant cases to Lieutenant Andersonâ he replied smoothly and you hummed quietly âso youâre a fancy robo-cop?â you asked and Connor analyzed your tone briefly, barely a millisecond, coming to the conclusion that you were⌠teasing him, possibly. Perhaps being cheeky?
âIn a sense, yes, I suppose so. Though Iâm not an actual police officerâ he stated and you shrugged with that same smirk that made his core circuit feel⌠choppy? Was that the right word for it? âWell, if you wonât mind, Iâll happily introduce you as my robo-cop friendâ you stated with a grin, Connor finding himself⌠smiling⌠it didnât seem like it was simply his social adaptability at play⌠you made him smile, somehow⌠heâd have to run a malfunctioning test later to make sure his systems were all intact. âAh, there he isâ you stated as you looked past Connor and he turned, seeing the Lieutenant and he⌠felt⌠strange⌠he didnât want to end his conversation with you. âIâll let you get back to work and stop hogging youâ you teased, moving to your own computer, giving him an easy out and he hesitated before standing up, nodding and walking over to Hank, glancing over his shoulder at you as you sat with a neutral look on your face, so different from just before, where you were smiling at him in the sweetest way possible, your thumb playing with your ring yet again as you looked over something on your computer.
--------------------------
âFuck off, Reedâ a voice snapped, the officer, Gavin and Connor turning to see who it was, seeing you standing there with an empty coffee mug âyou really donât have anything more important to do?â you sneered, walking over to him, standing chest to chest almost with him âheâs just a piece of plastic-â
âAnd youâre just a piece of meat. Fuck off, Gavin. Unless, of course, you want me to go to Fowler about last Saturday, âPookieâ?â you asked in a quiet voice and he tensed up, scoffing and leaving with the other officer as you watched him âmhm, thought soâ you muttered to yourself before turning to Connor as he stood up âyou okay?â you asked, looking him up and down with what appeared to be genuine concern and he nodded hesitantly âyes, thank you, but Androids donât feel pain and Iâve sustained no injuriesâ he stated smoothly, taking in the way you frowned, nodding as you stepped back and walked over to the coffee pot, Connor almost thinking that heâd offended you⌠he turned to say something when you looked at him over your shoulder, giving him a soft smile ânext time, just say thanksâ you stated with a soft voice, giving him a small playful wink before going back to pouring your coffee, that wink making his systems feel⌠strange⌠somehowâŚ
âTold you he was an assholeâ you stated as you turned around with a now full mug of coffee, walking past him, almost out of the open break room when his voice stopped you. âWhat happened last Saturday?â he asked before he could stop himself and you stopped, turning to face him, forcing a small smile âsomething he doesnât want Fowler to knowâ you winked at him again âif you want any advice or need someone to talk to, Iâm usually at my desk because I basically have no home lifeâ you called as you stepped back to your desk, Connor watching you, Hank looking from across the station, taking in how⌠soft Connor looked when he looked at you⌠it almost seemed⌠humanâŚ
-------------------------------------------
âSo, what happened that Saturday?â a voice asked and you jumped in your chair and yelped, turning to see a shocked and confused Connor, your hand over your heart as you gasped âJesus, Connor!â you hissed, shutting your eyes as you took a moment to catch your breath âyou almost gave me a heart attackâ you stated in a breathy chuckle and Connor frowned, quickly scanning and assessing your condition âyour heart shows no signs of pulmonary or cardiac distress-â
âItâs-... just something people sayâ you corrected with the same amusement and you looked around the otherwise empty police station âwhy are you here? Itâs lateâ you noted, looking at the alarm clock on your lit computer before looking up at him âdid something happen?â
âAs you know, we recently had a deviancy case in a certain establishment-â
âThe sex club, the Eden Club, yeah, I know itâ you shrugged and Connor wasnât sure how to⌠process that you knew about that place⌠âyou know it?â he asked with a small frown and you blushed, rubbing the back of your neck sheepishly, clearing your throat as you looked back at your computer, your thumb once again playing with the chain in your ring âwell⌠itâs in the reports and-...â you trailed off, looking up at him, hesitating âyou can keep a secret, right?â you asked quietly and he nodded without hesitation, as though his mission, instructions, orders werenât being ignored by spending casual time with you, making a promise such as that. You nodded and leaned in âwell, that Saturday I spoke about⌠some of us officers had a little get-together the friday before, got a little drunk but after a while, we split to go home,â you started, a devious grin starting to form on your face, like you had been dying to share this with someone and was trying to hold back as much as you could to seem⌠less eager to spill the secret. âWell, the next morning I got a call from a⌠certain establishment⌠a certain someone had gotten drunk, âacquiredâ some âcompanyâ for the entire night, written my number on the bed sheet, passed out drunk for the entire night and running up one hell of a bill and thatâs when I was called the next morning, he was still passed out drunkâ you whispered eagerly âdonât tell him I told you, okay? But thatâs what Iâm holding over his headâ you admitted, barely able to contain your giddiness and it was infectious, a grin forming on his lips at the sight of you. You let out a heavy exhale as you leaned back in your chair âfuck, Iâve been dying to tell someone, anyone!â you admitted in a hushed voice, giggling âthe best thing? He was dressed in his boxers and a tank top way too small for him that said âPookieââ you added, biting your lower lip to not laugh, looking down as you shook your head, giggling âso yeah, I basically have his balls in my hand right nowâ you joked, Connor frowning and you waved your wand âanother expression. It just basically means; if I say âjumpâ, heâll have no choice but to ask âhow high?ââ you summarized with a mischievous look in your eyes that Connor felt his central core brimming at when he saw it. âSo, why are you here so late? No android apartment to go back to while Hank is out drinking?â you asked casually, stretching in your chair and Connor hesitated before speaking up âI would like your assessment on somethingâ he admitted, making you sit a little straighter, ready to listen and his core felt like it was working overtime for a brief second, almost like it skipped at how eager you were to listen and help. âOh? Okayâ you stated, Connor hesitating before finally deciding to ask âIâm unsure how familiar you are with the case, but the Eden Club case has been⌠frustratingâŚâ
âBecause the Androids got away?â you asked casually and he felt a sense of relief that you already understood it. Understood him. âYes. I could have taken the shot, and yet I chose not toâ he admitted with shame, looking away from you and you nodded âwell, shooting them would have damaged them, right?â you asked and he nodded, looking at you as you nodded in return âwell, couldnât have gotten anything from them if they were damagedâŚâ you got up, leaning closer to him, he noted your subtle perfume, the body lotion you used, the shampoo you put in your hair⌠his circuits were scrambled, his LED blinking blue, yellow, red, yellow, blue, yellow. âAnd if your conscience needs some help⌠Androids arenât permitted to use firearms, right? So, firing that gun wouldâve gone against what youâre permittedâ you rationalized and Connor felt that when he thought about it in that way, through that lens⌠the shame felt⌠less⌠it felt less like a failure⌠without a doubt Amanda would remind him of his failure to capture the two deviants. He wasnât permitted to use a firearm, therefore he wasnât permitted to shoot those two deviants, it made perfect sense. He snapped out of his own head when he saw you grab your things and turn off your desk âw-where are you going?â he asked, trying not to sound as panicked as he felt-... no, he didnât âfeelâ, he just⌠was confused. Yes, that was it, he was just confused as to why youâd decided to leave all of the sudden. âWell, only one of us can be a senseless workaholic who hangs around the station all the time, youâve got this shiftâ you joked as you backed up âsee you tomorrow, Connorâ you called with a smile, leaving the station and Connor was left at your desk, watching you leave with a small smile that he wasnât even aware of.
very normal about the robot
Heartwired-3
Warnings: Some angst with a bit more angst but with some slight shitting on Gavin Reed at the end so Iâll count that as fluff lol
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seeing him in the station still felt surreal, it caught your eye as you sat with Agent Perkins, the man noticing and he looked over his shoulder at what had caught your attention during such an important conversation, at least, it was an important conversation to him. âTo think itâs still here, as though nothing happenedâ he stated casually and your eyes moved back to Perkins at his choice of words, your jaw clenched and you took a deep but subtle breath. âIâm just glad heâs still here, he might be an android but heâs amazing at what he does. To tell you the truth, Iâm a bit jealous of Hankâ you stated casually, intentionally referring to Connor as a person, instead of âitâ, Perkins looking you up and down, trying to get the measure of you and how far your sympathies went for the androids. âYes, well, as I said, you seem to be quite intuitive, your discovery at the station led to quite the revelation. Iâve talked with my supervisors, assured them that youâd be an asset to the Bureau-â
âAn-... asset?â you asked with confusion, your chest starting to rise and hall a little heavier, your fingers fiddling with the chain in your ring on your left middle finger, Perkin nodding with a self-satisfied smirk âyes. Iâve talked with your captain and he has agreed that your skill set could be an asset, it would also give you a chance to hone those skills-â he was cut off as you got up from the chair, storming directly towards Fowlerâs office where Connor and Hank were, Hank obviously in some kind of dispute with Fowler but you couldnât care less as you stormed up the few steps and ripped the door open, barging into the room and interrupting them âthe FBI?!â you asked sharply, silence filling the room except for Fowlerâs heavy sigh ânot now, (Y/L/N)-â
âYes, nowâ you argued, stepping closer âwhy is Agent âSchmuckâ talking about me joining the fucking FBI?â you asked with anger, arms crossed over your chest and it was obvious that you were fuming, if youâd had an LED, it would be permanently red right now. âBecause youâre a damn good cop but you can do better!â Fowler argued back and your eyes widened a little âthatâs up to me, not you!!â
âLook, he simply asked-â
âYou should have checked with me first!â
âI am your boss!!â
âAnd itâs MY life!!â you yelled back, shaking your head at him âyou donât get to ship me off because you think itâs what is best for me! If you want me gone, have the balls to fire me yourself, but donât just hand me over to someone else! So what if I can do better? Itâs not up to you! I like this job, I like living in Detroit and I donât want to leave it! I have friends here, family, my life is here, for fuckâs sake!â you argued angrily and Connor couldnât do anything but just stare at you. Your heart rate was elevated, your core temperature was raised and your fists were clenched tightly, your knuckles turning white. Logically, it made sense. You were observant, loyal, skilled, hard-working, intelligent⌠of course the FBI wanted you⌠logically, you should be ecstatic to go⌠so why werenât you?
âItâs a once in a lifetime opportunity!â Fowler continued to argue and you stepped closer to his desk where he sat âitâs not your choice!â you argued back loudly âI canât believe youâd do this!! Handing me off to the FBI because some snobby nosed asshole asks?! Thatâs all it takes to make you cave and give in?!â
âIâll pretend that I didnât hear that!â Fowler warned but you just scoffed âdonât, you heard it alright, because apparently, youâre not my boss anymore, the FUCKING FBI IS!!â you yelled as loudly as you could, your face nearly red with anger and Connor actually worried that your heart would stop, given how bast it was beating. âScrew you, Fowlerâ you hissed in a lower voice, shaking your head at him and leaving the office, Connorâs synthetic heart felt⌠strange, like it was pumping too fast and he looked at Hank who gave him a subtle nod, Connor leaving the office while Hank continued to try and get Fowler to keep them on the case, while also giving him a piece of his mind about shipping you off to the FBI. Connor hurried over to your desk, finding you brooding at it, your heart rate almost twice as fast as normal, your face still red as you stared at Perkins in the break area. âThe FBI is an excellent opportunity-â Connor started but was cut off by the glare you gave him, his synthetic heart once again racing. Wasnât this what you wanted to hear?
âSo, you want me gone too?â you asked sharply, looking up at him with a glare, jaw clenched and Connor frowned, his LED blinking rapidly between yellow and blue before settling on yellow âno! Of course not! I donât-... want you to goâ he admitted quietly and your hard glare softened slightly as you took him in. Your eyes moved to Hank as he stormed out of Fowlerâs office and to his own desk, Connor following your gaze before looking back at you âLieutenant Anderson and I have been removed from any and all deviant casesâ he admitted in a solemn voice, your eyes moving back to him and you frowned, looking down at your ring as you fiddled with the chain int it âwhat does that mean for you? Are you going to stay, orâŚ?â
âIâll return to CyberLife to be dismantled, so they can figure out why I failed my missionâ he stated calmly, taking in the way you frowned and finally looked up at him âso-... theyâll just, what, kill you?â
âIâm not alive-â
âBullshitâ you hissed, standing up from your chair, walking around your desk, standing close to him âyouâre more alive than half the people I know, Connorâ you whispered with desperation. âYou saved Hank, you gave your life for him!...â
âOfficer (Y/L/N)-â
âNo! They donât get to do that!â you hissed, feeling the sting of tears starting to form in your eyes âthey donât get to j-just-... make you and then take you away!â you argued, shaking your head âthey donât get to do that! They donât get to just-... kill youâ you whispered with anger, watching Connor look down at you with those warm brown eyes⌠his LED flickering between yellow and red and you swore you saw him glance, just briefly, down at your lips, barely a second and you felt your heart race. âThey donât get to take you away just because theyâre scared of youâ you muttered, trying your hardest to not cry, which you very much felt like doing right now. You bit your lower lip when you started to feel it tremble, looking away from him around the station, your mind racing for a solution while Connor just⌠looked at you. Everything about you was being stored in his database. The curve of your jaw, the shape of your lips, the color of your hair, itâs length, your eyes⌠everything was being stored, filed and catalogued, saved along the most important files he had. He took a subtle but deep breath to take in your scent, he allowed himself to feel the heat of your body and how it softly radiated off of you, how it felt against him. If nothing else, heâd remember you until the second they turned him off. Heâd remember your face, the first time he saw you, sitting at your desk, working until heâd disturbed you to ask when the Lieutenant would arrive. If heâd forget everything else, heâd make sure you would be the one thing he remembered, all the way to the endâŚ
âAnd youâre fine with this? Fine with just being-... torn apart?â you asked sharply, Connorâs LED remaining firmly in yellow as he looked down at you, brows furrowing a little and he felt strange⌠he feltâŚ
âWhat else can I do-?â
âSolve the damn caseâ you snapped at him, shaking your head âsolve the fucking case, Connor!â you hissed, the determined anger in your eyes fading into something softer, something much softer, more sincere, genuine⌠âyou-... you made me a promise, remember? Are you going to break that?â you asked, hands on your hips, as though youâd just remembered the promise yourself, deciding to use it as a last resort. âNo, of course not-â
âThen solve the damn caseâ you hissed, swallowing the lump in your throat âsolve the case and keep your promise to meâŚâ you ordered in a slightly wavering tone, letting out a shaky breath as though youâd gotten something heavy off your chest, your eyes looking over his face, as though you were doing what heâd just done, cataloging everything about him, about how he looked, how it felt standing so close to him, barely inches apart, The silence between the two of you was almost suffocating, standing so close, barely a step would make the two of you touch, chest to chest, his presence almost intoxicating as you closed your eyes, almost as though you reveled in it, taking it in, wanting to remember each second before you opened your eyes and looked up at him âpleaseâ you added in a quiet whisper, blinking away a few tears before letting out a shaky breath, leaving for the bathroom, Connor watching you leave before looking back at Hank, his face changing into one of determination and frustration as he walked over to him.
---------------------------------------
âWhat are you doing, you piece of plastic?â Gavin asked with a scoff, approaching Connor by the door, only for the door at the end of the hallway open, both turning to see you standing there, an unimpressed brow raised at Gavin âseriously?â you asked, walking over to Connor âI told you I didnât need help carrying anythingâ you lightly scolded Connor before turning to a slightly confused Gavin âConnor is helping me move a few things into evidence before heâs sent back to CyberLife. Problem, âPookieâ?â you asked with that same unimpressed look on your face. Gavin opened his mouth to say something when you stepped a little closer to him âwhy donât you actually let us go back to work? Not all of us can be loitering around like we donât have a jobâ you hissed, Gavin forcing a scoff as he left, mumbling something you couldnât be bothered to listen to, turning to Connor. âHank is fighting with Perkins in the break room and I saw you sneak off in hereâŚâ you started, Connorâs LED blinking yellow and you noticed, your heart racing as you took off your ring, the ring he hadnât seen you take off even once since he saw you, taking his hand and giving it to him, he could hear your heart racing, your heart rate elevated as you looked up at him, your hands squeezing his that held your ring âkeep it safe for me⌠you can give it back to me when this is all overâ you stated with a forced smile, about to leave when Connor held onto you, making you stop and turn to face him, the air thick and heavy as your heart was practically in your throat, â(Y/N)â Connor mumbled and you couldnât help but smile a little, it was the first time heâd called you by your first time, and without âofficerâ titles in front of it âyouâre a good person, Connor, and donât ever, ever let anyone tell you any different, no matter whatâŚâ you stated firmly in a quiet voice, making sure he heard each and every word you said before sighing lightly . âBe careful, Connor⌠pleaseâ you asked in a whisper, begged⌠You leaned up, hesitating before kissing his cheek, lingering briefly, your heart racing in your ears, you could hear the powerful flow of your blood as your heart pumped it through you âbe safe⌠and please⌠come back to me, I canât lose a friend like you, ConnorâŚâ you whispered quietly, mostly to yourself, a small prayer, a hail mary, before stepping back, leaving him with the ring as you let out a shaky breath âIâll try and buy you a few more minutes. Goâ you ordered with a forced smile, about to leave when you stopped yourself âoh, and youâll need a password⌠Hankâs password is FuckingPasswordâ you whispered with a slightly more sincere smile, giving him a wink before hurrying towards the break room to try and give Connor a little more time, Connor looking down at the ring in his hand, his synthetic heart racing as he closed his fist around it and entered the basement and evidence room.
Piece of art of David for this really cool book called Heartcoded / Heartwired by WhatItShouldveBeen / Solene Reese which I highly, highly suggest reading if you like introspective robots/AI, robot/AI x human, or the weight of an entire supercomputer's full attention pressing down on someone's fragile psyche at every possible angle with nothing but pure love, love, love.
