Done with my appointment. Holy shit that was one of the most abysmal appointments I think I’ve ever had. As soon as I walked in the door I already had people gawking at me and my cane bc I had at LEAST 60+ years on ANYONE in that waiting room. It made me feel really glad I didn’t grab my wheelchair (even though I definitely should have). The only bright spot of this appointment was the lovely nurse that may took my vitals, she was so sweet and kind, shout out to her for real. Once the doctor finally came back, he didn’t listen to a SINGLE thing I said. He basically looked at my chart and everything after that was in one ear and out the other. He told me I couldn’t possibly have POTs bc I don’t pass out (which is only mildly true, I just don’t pass out long enough to hit the floor). He was so dismissive about any concern I had. I felt like I was going to pass out the entire appointment so I didn’t really have any strength to advocate for myself because every cell in my body was focused on keeping the lights on. He blamed everything on a medication I’m taking. LIKE DUDE THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR YEARS. I STARTED THAT MEDICATION 6 MONTHS AGO. He did not care. At least he ordered some fucking labs (ECG and Heart Monitor) to make sure nothing was wrong structurally. But then I was went on a wild fucking goose chase to 4 SEPARATE DEPARTMENTS to try and get the labs done. Each department told me to go somewhere else and when I finally reached the end, they said they only take appointments (which is fine) then said I couldn’t make an appointment with them in person, gave me a number to call for scheduling and sent me on my way. So I hobble my ass back to my car and call the number. THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG FUCKING NUMBER. I’m so done. Now I’m here in a McDonalds trying not to pass out and not sob because of how much energy that took for what feels like nothing.
If anyone has any tips on advocating for yourself to doctors, I’d really appreciate it.
