Head-games - First introduced in the winter of 1915, the French military set up papier mâché head decoys which were used to flush out German snipers.
Headgame (2018)
Dear AD, what happens if an artist, who you, trust have an art block/insecurity issues that affects the work, right after he/she gets a job from you?
Everyone has problems sometime. The most important thing is to stay in communication with your art director. Artists get into trouble and wait until the deadline (or even worse - after the deadline) to let the AD know and then it’s crisis time. That bridge is afire. You need to work with your AD to solve any problems that may come up. And you want to give them as much time as possible to find alternative solutions if it comes to that.
Artists are scared to speak up because it might make them look bad…but NOTHING is going to make you look worse than blowing deadlines without communicating.
As far as insecurity and creative blocks go: you’re a professional, and you should have a toolbox full of ways to get around these issues when they come up. Being creative on demand is part of the job. Sure, some jobs are going to be harder than others, but remember your head work is as important as your art work. Train your mind just like you train your hand. Don’t just practice when you feel like it. Practice especially when you don’t feel like it, and that will be much more useful to you on professional jobs.
