some benny demarco facts that i may or may not be using for fic writing purposes:
he was nicknamed 'benny' 'trigg' and 'flash gordon' during the war
he was the fourth of five siblings - two older sisters, marge and mary, one older brother frank (may have been known by his middle name al) and his younger sister veronica (known as ronnie)
in a letter home to his parents from stalag luft iii: "You can tell Marge that I really am seeing the world now. Tell her she had better just stay at home and have romantic dreams about these experiences as actually they are not very romantic."
went to mass every sunday in the stalag (or at least told his parents he did)
his father, nicola, was born in italy and worked as a clothing designer for the merit clothing company
it seems he moved around a fair bit, having been born in philadelphia, lived in chicago (wilmette) at the time of his enlistment, was in westerville ohio when his father died in 1976 and died himself in florida in 1992
in a letter to his parents upon his liberation: "... my health and general condition are excellent. As a matter of fact, this little body never ceases to amaze me. It is not large, as you know but nevertheless is a fine piece of machinery."
