I’m the least connected to the Light out of all of us, I know that for sure. Even though they knew I had it, I didn’t. I could resist Honeysong’s efforts, sure, but it took work. Cherry and Snowy aren’t even affected by it, but if I don’t focus she can take me.

I didn’t even find out what I could do until they were already sweeping me off my paws, taking me out into the mountains to fulfill some prophecy that I was apparently a part of. And my eyes don’t shine like theirs’ do. Honeysong can light up an entire valley with a single lie told to her. Snowfire makes that light that makes everything look like it belongs to StarClan, not just the cats she summons. And Soaringwing, you can almost see the future in his gaze. But I just get a tiny spark. Honeysong and Soaringwing are going to be great leaders one day, because they can scare the dirt out of any cat that passes through their territory. Me, what am I going to do, bark at them? I know a few dog curses, but I can’t even use them unless there’s one in front of me.

I know that they all feel the Light deep in their bones, in their pelts. Honeysong says it warms her like a fire. Snowy says it roils and fights. Soaringwing says he can’t feel it, but I know he can. Even if Honeysong can’t tell when he’s lying with her Light, he rubs his eye. I know when you’re lying, Cherry, everyone does!

I realized that I never properly introduced the main characters for this thing, which probably should have been the first thing I did.

Main Characters

Snowfire - A kit at the time the first story starts (along with Hazelmist, Honeysong, and Cherry/Soaringwing). She’s brash, kind of rude, and tends to say what’s on her mind, but ultimately cares deeply about people that care about her. While she’ll say she can beat you up, fighting is her worst skill, and she knows it. She relies mostly on outright lies to frighten people off, but once one gets through that, she’ll do everything in her power to help you. She has the ability to call directly on certain StarClan cats for help, advice, or even company.

Hazelmist - Quiet, shy, and would probably officially have an anxiety disorder if he wasn’t a cat, or even if Snowfire wasn’t his medicine cat. He’s a bit of a hopeless romantic, though he keeps his opinions on who should be together to himself. He often second guesses himself, even if everyone else agrees that his plans are the best option. He takes a de facto leadership position in his group (with Snowfire, Honeysong, and Soaringwing), and hates every second of it, even though the others all think he’s the best one to lead them. Even if he doesn’t realize it, he absolutely craves positive attention and comforting words, and is willing to act more nervous than he really is to get them. He has the ability to talk to predator-type animals, including dogs, foxes, badgers, hawks, and snakes.

Honeysong - Though she’s not a very good person on the surface level, when you get to know her... she’s still not a very good person. She was the only one of the group who knew what her abilities meant when she was a kit, and was more than willing to use them to get what she wanted. She has the ability both to tell when others are lying and to control others just by telling them what to do. The only cats this doesn’t work on are her brother, Goldfeather, and the other powered cats. Thanks to her abilities, she never needed to ask for anything, or go without. She’s very willing to kill, or even just destroy lives, to get her way. Underneath she truly worries what others think about her, and uses her powers so that they can’t think bad things about her. The only person that can temper her actions is Goldfeather. Any disapproval from him, and she instantly undoes things.

Soaringwing - A young trans tom, and ultimately an anxious wreck. While Hazelmist openly displays his anxiety, Soaringwing covers it up with aggression and hatred towards everyone he meets. He’s kind to his friends, and to his mate, Wildlight, but his littermates, Vinefur and Poppyfang, have taken the opportunity to fire back at him and avoid trouble. He doesn’t have much confidence in himself, and dreads the day that Wildlight asks him about kits, because he worries that he won’t love them if they aren’t biologically his. He dreams of being leader of WindClan one day, so he can undo the militaristic tone that Maplestar has instilled. He wants desperately to run away, at the same time, to somewhere he’ll be accepted for who he is by a kinder leader.
