Simply put, Christmas for Hayden had been exhausting. Not only did she have to making sure everything was in order, but keeping three young children happy during the holidays felt almost impossible. She had spent Christmas Eve, the night before, wrapping presents for everyone in the household and made sure that everyone’s was labeled correctly. After falling asleep on the couch, she had woken up at six in the morning to start cooking the Christmas dinner. When Garrett lived there, he would help. But now it was just her. All Garrett wanted was to spend time with his children. Anything else simply was too much time with Hayden. Even though she know she had a successful Christmas, she couldn’t help but feel a strong hatred for herself. A drunken mistake had changed her whole life, and today of all days she had to pretend like everything was okay. She had felt awkward and antsy knowing that Garrett was sleeping in the guest room, so she found herself not being able to sleep. After cleaning for an hour and a half, Hayden sat down next to the fire with a glass of wine and let out a long sigh. Other than the gifts she received from her brother, Hayden didn’t receive any gifts for the holiday season. Feeling insignificant after doing so much, a part of her just wanted to break down and cry. Instead, she sucked in a breath and start flipping through channels as she sipped on her wine. Hopefully she could find something to distract her before any tears made an appearance.
