American Pharoah on his way to winning the Haskell Invitational.Â
The Graveyard of Champions!
Just got around to watching the Travers Stakes.  Of course, everyone (myself included) was rooting for American Pharoah to take it - especially after his win at the Haskell.  Sadly, the “graveyard of champions” still holds true.
I haven’t gotten as caught up in the hype around American Pharoah as everyone else.  He is an amazing horse, no doubt, and most of his wins look effortless, but I can’t agree with those that try and compare him to Secretariat.  I doubt there will ever be a horse that can compare to Secretariat (though I’d give an arm and a leg to bring Secretariat and Man O’ War back for a match race). Â
The announcer called the Travers an upset when Keen Ice won, but I almost expected it.  I rather like Keen Ice, and I think he could have taken AP at the Haskell if he’d started his stretch drive a little earlier.  He was closing in pretty fast, but there wasn’t enough race left for him to overtake American Pharoah.
The Breeders Cup Classic should be a good watch this year, lots of great horses in the field.  As it’ll be AP’s last race before retirement, I would love for him to have a win, but I’m also really rooting for Keen Ice and Beholder.  I can’t wait to see Beholder take on the boys!
Well that was quick. American Pharoah would have had to want to lose in order to not win that race. Spoiler alert, he didn’t want to. lolÂ
