Has anyone watched
A Bittersweet Life? It stars Lee Byung-hun (most recently seen in Squid Game) and Shin Min-a(most recently seen in Hometown Cha Cha Cha) and its a very cool noir loner bad boy with a good heart type film. I really liked it. I think I would have liked it even more if I hadn't seen the Bollywood remake. Now hear me out...before you throw tomatoes at me, Bollywood remakes for korean movies are notoriously AWFUL I mean look what they did to The Man from Nowhere
I am so so sorry Won Bin. You deserved better than John Abraham playing your role. I'm sorry I couldn't stop him-I mean its not like I tried but had I known it was in the works I would have probably tweeted about it or something?
Anyway back to Awarapan-aside from the low budget this film is actually such a lovely remake. It actually ADDS to the story. The whole religious element-flashbacks to his girlfriend we get from Shivam! I love that they gave us a back story they gave us a reason for his actions and a good one at that!
Its ok that we don't know why Sun-woo goes against his boss, it works in that version of the film but I dont think it would have done with Awarapan.
Awarapan and its soundtrack have a special place in my heart. Maula maula with flashbacks to his love. And then he's holding a gun to his own head like
Toh phir aao, a naughties banger if I've ever heard one.
Tera mera rishta purana
Annie Khalid's Mahiya is so much fun but yet it matches the vibe of the film. Like everything is sombre and this is such a bop, it shouldn't work but here I am enjoying everything coming together ooo yaaa e ya
