She likes that he can win her penguin plushies on crane game and shows her appreciation by making him wear a penguin hoodie. And just in general, I like to pretend Haruka is a "water type" and Toya is "ice", so I think the penguin theme can fittingly extend to the latter.

im a sucker for toyaxanyone, so i decided to play a bit with harutoya here! it's not stated in the fic, but they met through an+saki and basically just got to know each other on their own terms."
As idols, rumors surrounded MORE MORE JUMP! constantly, especially since they were little more than high school students right now. One such thing consistently on their fansâ radars were their love lives: everyone wants to know their favorite idolâs tastes in people, after allâwould they be up to their standards?
So when Haruka ended up solidifying her relationship with Aoyagi Toya, she knew theyâd have to keep it low. She was up-front with him about such, and he understood and agreedâhe himself had no interest in making their relationship a grandiose thing anyways. However, if her boyfriend was two things, it would be that he was kind and he could be a menace.
MMJ was streaming in their new location that day, showing More More House around to their viewers. People flooded the chat with comments, cooing over every little thing the idols pointed out to them, and even the things they didnât. As Minori took the camera away from Airi, Haruka glanced down at her buzzing phone. Opening it up, she couldnât help but smile.
> Hope the streamâs going well. We donât have practice today, so Iâm going to swing by that cafe you like.
> Do the others want anything? Iâm happy to drop it off at the House.
Harukaâs smile grew, unconsciously typing back her order along with the othersâ. Theyâd frequented that cafe quite a lot since it had good options for the idolsâ diets, and Haruka was often the one ordering for⌠a variety of reasons. She tucked her phone away after confirming her boyfriendâs message of âbe there in 30,â just in time for the camera to come back around to her.
âHaruka-chan~!â Minori pouted. âTell our fans that Iâm not clumsy!â
Haruka could only nervously laugh, quickly weighing her options. She glanced past Minori and the camera to see Airi grinning deviously and Shizuku with a confused yet warm smile. Haruka sighed good-naturedly, then, bravely, faced Minori and their viewers again.
The stream continued without much fanfare, the group getting into dance practice in their new studio. The door to downstairs opened as Shizuku and Minori were going over a section that Shizuku was having trouble with, followed by steps ascending the stairs.
âHm? Is someone here?â Airi glanced into the main room. Her eyes bulged when she saw the tall, dual-colored blue head of Toya making their way into the House.
âI shouldâve expected you to be on time,â Haruka laughed quietly, approaching him. He moved to the little kitchen, setting the bag of drinks on the counter.
âI did say thirty minutes, right?â Toya gave her a confused and worried look. She patted him on the back, telling him to ignore her mumblings.
âHey, Minori, keep that pointed down!â Airiâs voice echoed through the house; Haruka and Toya both looked over to see the trio rushing over, their streaming phone taken out of its stand and in Minoriâs hands. Dutifully, the camera was pointed down, but Haruka could just imagine the questions flooding their chat.
âIâm surprised to see you here, thoughâ are those drinks?â Airi stared at the bag of drinks.
âAh, I swung by the cafe Haruka likes, and she told me your orders, soâŚâ Toya trailed off. Haruka peeked into the plastic bag, pulling out drinks one-by-one and calling them out. Each idol took their drink, sighing happily. Finally, she pulled out a small cup of what she could only assume wasâ
ââand a coffee, black, for you.â
Toya hummed, accepting the offered coffee. Haruka smiled as he savored his favorite beverage with a content smile on his face.
âAre you going to stay, or do you have somewhere to be?â Haruka asked her boyfriend. He thought for a moment.
âIâll hang here for a little while, if youâd like. But donât let me interrupt your stream,â he replied, giving Haruka a soft smile.
âU-uhm! Excuse me!â Minori interrupted, bringing her free hand to her chest. âWould you mind helping me with a routine?â
Toya hesitated, and Haruka gave him an odd look. This wasnât the first time heâd hesitated about being in front of a camera full of peopleâwhen theyâd first started dating and Haruka had mentioned him appearing on stream at some point, heâd gotten like this too. She placed her hand on top of his, gently intertwining their fingers.
âYou donât have to appear in front of our viewers; you can help Minori from behind the camera.â
â...Would I be of help?â Toya turned to her.
âThe routine is similar to your style, so I think youâd understand it. Plus, you understand choreographies in a different way than us idols, so it would be a new way of seeing things,â she explained with a smile. Toya nodded along, then agreed. Airi took the camera from Minori and went with Shizuku to put it back (and do damage control, most likely). Minori thanked Toya again, bowing low, before darting off into their practice room.
Haruka glanced at her boyfriend, and couldnât help but let out a silent sigh of relief at his relaxed posture. His silver eyes caught her own pair of aquamarine ones, and gave her a soft smile heâd only ever seen him give Akito or his siblings.
âAre you alright with this?â Haruka asked anyway. He nodded.
âDonât worry, I know my boundaries. Hanasato-san didnât overstep.â
âYou can call her Minori, you know.â Haruka walked into the practice room, Toya trailing after her.
â...Iâll think about it.â She could hear the teasing in his voice, and chuckled. Minori waved at them excitedly as Airi suggested they run through what they had at the moment so Toya could see. They all agreed, and started up their practice once again.
Toya had been referred to as âdrink boyâ from then on. His appearance on their streams at the House had become near-routine, with their streamers always ecstatic to see âdrink boy.â Of course, with his appearance, rumors circulated like crazy . Most assumed (correctly) that Toya was dating someone in MMJ, although opinions differed on who it may be.
One day, Haruka was streaming alone in the House, a much quieter and calmer stream than the long stream of appearances theyâd been doing. Reading off chat, she couldnât help but let out a huff at one personâs question.
ââWhere is drink boy?â Drink boyâs still in schoolâhe got held up by his committee, I think.â Haruka couldnât help but roll her eyes (affectionately!) at the chat.
âActually I wanted to surprise you.â Toyaâs voice replied, his head poking in soon after. Haruka let out a screech, jumping ten feet in the air. Her shaky breaths turned into chuckles as she registered the situation.
âOh, you scared me.â She stood up, a grin on her face.
âSorry about that,â he replied, but the sparkle in his eye told her he wasnât that sorry. He leaned down to peck her on the forehead, making her melt a little. âAnyways, I got you a pack of those sweets you like.â
âYou didnât have to.â She took the offered box of sweets. They were just low-calorie enough that she could enjoy them on a semi-regular basis.
âBut I wanted to,â Toya huffed, giving her a look . It wasnât often Toya got snarky with anyone , so Haruka couldnât help but both feel amused and patronized.
âThank you, then.â She gave him another hug. âAre you staying?â
âI can if youâd like. No one else here?â
âNo, theyâre all busy with other things.â Haruka moved to the camera and began adjusting it. She gestured for Toya to sit down on the bean bag Minori had insisted they have (and Haruka had, secretly, backed) and managed to get it adjusted so his legs and part of his torso were in the frame but nothing more. Then she sat down on the couch, fully in frame, and smiled at the camera. âWell, hereâs âdrink boy.ââ
âHello there.â Toya waved in frame, a canned coffee now in his hands. âHave I been nicknamed âdrink boy,â now?â
âYes, that is what they like to call you.â Haruka opened her pack of sweets with a smile. She looked at the live chat feed, noticing a recurring question. She turned to Toya and asked, âCan I tell them?â
He stared back at her with a blank expression, then a lightbulb went off over his head. âOh! Sure.â
She turned back to the chat. âYes, âdrink boyâ and I are dating.â
Their viewers were ecstatic. And not in the way Haruka had thought.
Her initial reaction was that they would eat up the news that their idol was dating someone mostly for the sheer drama behind it. However, she was pleasantly surprised to learn that instead, they were genuinely happy sheâd found someone to be with.
âŚThat did not stop them from calling him âdrink boy.â Or Toya from living up to such a title.
âMy group doesnât do streaming like this,â Toya commented once, viewing the chat on his phone. âWe do music as well, but not in the same style as MMJ.â
Toya was lovely with their chat, always interacting with them. If he didnât actively avoid the camera and already had obligations with Vivid BAD SQUAD, Haruka was sure heâd make a perfect idol if he wanted to. Some point down the line, Haruka had learned the mortifying knowledge that Toya put whatever they were onâwhether their own streams or appearances elsewhereâas he did work or walked to practice, catching them live if he could; when he couldnât, heâd always made sure to watch the VODs.
Then, one day, somethingâŚÂ strange happened.
It was another solo stream of hersâAiri was supposed to be there, but had come down sick at the last minute, so only Haruka it wasâand Toya had swung by once again, bringing a box of those sweets Haruka likes. Haruka, midway through their conversation, excused herself to go to the bathroom. She wasnât gone more than a minute , and yet when she came back Toya looked like a cat that got the cream, and chat was positively terrified .
âWhat happened between you and chat?â she asked her boyfriend. He simply kept up his smug smile and refused to answer. She dropped it, but resolved to watch the VOD of that stream later.
âLaterâ ended up being âthat nightâ since Toya insisted upon taking her out for a date after her streamâa very lovely one, mind you, she enjoyed every second of it and was hopelessly in love with this manâbut finally she sat down to discover what happened.
Fast-forwarding until where she left, she slowed it back down and watched with rapt attention. Only a second or two after sheâd left the room, Toya cleared his voice.
â...Letâs talk, chat.â His voice had turned serious to a degree sheâd only ever heard from him when speaking about surpassing RAD WEEKENDâbut then, his voice had been full of fire. Here, it felt like a winter storm had suddenly descended upon the stream. âIâve seen some of the stuff you say to Haruka. Iâve been watching you all. So let me be clear here for a moment: Haruka is my girlfriend, and I will not tolerate some of the intrusive things you say about and to her. She may laugh it off, but I will not .â
Chat, appropriately, grew terrified and bent to his demands quickly. Her past self came back into frame only a few seconds later, looking just as confused as she had been earlier that day.
Haruka let out a breath, flush rising to her cheeks. She grabbed her phone and immediately opened her texts with her boyfriend; then, she spent minutes typing, deleting, then retyping her message over and over again. Finally, she settled on:
> âŚYouâre very hot when you threaten my viewers over me.
Toya left her on read for a few minutes before he sent her a barely coherent reply.
This went on for eight months total. âDrink boy,â as the MMJ fans had thus dubbed him (and that no one, including the man himself, had bothered to correct them on), Kiritani Harukaâs boyfriend, had become something of a legend in the idol community in general. It was a little terrifying in Harukaâs opinion, but Toya seemed nothing more than highly amused by this situation so she counted it as a win.
Ironically, it was thanks to Toya that Haruka understood their fans even better. The stereotype of idol fans had become twisted as the industry itself became more twisted and brutalâbut here their fans were: highly supportive of her relationship, of her boyfriendâs wish to stay off-camera, and of his âwarningsâ towards anyone who tried to cozy up to Haruka in the wrong way.Â
Then, it had all blown up in the most anticlimactic way possible.
Toya arrived, as always, with drinksâMMJ would break to receive their drinks, and chat would be delighted that their favorite idol partner had appeared (his continued presence for the stream was up-for-debate, as sometimes he just swung by to drop drinks off before practice, but the community stayed ever hopeful).
While in the middle of making small talk with Toya before he left to go hang out with his siblings, a super chat suddenly echoed through the room:
<hey, isnât that aoyagi toya from vivid bad squad? lol>
All conversation stopped as the four idols stared at the phone in shock. Haruka immediately opened her mouth to do damage control before her boyfriend began chucklingâthen laughing, then having to hold onto the counter so he wouldnât collapse onto the floor. They stared at him in disbelief; Haruka couldnât help but smile after a few moments.
âSorry, I just⌠I didnât expect it to be soâŚÂ blunt. â Toya calmed down, a smile on his face. âYes, I am, itâs nice to meet you.â
Haruka peeked at the chat open on Toyaâs phone. It was moving at a breakneck speed sheâd very rarely seen out of them.
<oh cool! i thought you sounded familiar. i listen to vbs a lot, didn't expect you over here tho>
âWell⌠dating an idol has its perks I suppose.â
âToya, dear,â Haruka put a hand on his bicep, âplease stop breaking chat.â
It went over surprisingly well, considering the fact that âDrink boyâ was a member of Shibuyaâs fastest-growing street music group. And was dating a member of MORE MORE JUMP! Actually, they probably broke two sets of fans with that info.
Toya appeared on the next stream, face and all, still slightly nervous about showing his face on stream but with Minoriâs encouragement put himself out there. Theyâd set a stream dedicated just to the couple, discussing all the mundane things and the abnormal things.
âAoyagi-kun, if you donât mind me asking, why were you so apprehensive about coming onto the camera? Or, still are, I guess,â Shizuku asked with the tone that said that he was free to decline to answer.
Toya glanced away, took a deep breath, then turned back to the mint-haired idol. âSome of you may know my upbringing, but for those who donât: I was raised in classical, but grew so sick of it I ran away and began doing street music to annoy my father. Thereâs more after that, but where I'm going with this is that because my family valued classical music so highly, I often had to do professional performances in front of hundreds of people. I was probably⌠no older than six.â
Airi let out a horrified breath as Toya continued: âBecause of that, I was often in front of large crowds of people, forced to be perfect and stand up to everyoneâs expectations; when I reached my breaking point with classical, I also grew⌠fearful, I suppose, of the camera. That fear ended up translating into these streams, as although I had no expectations placed upon me by others, I felt I had that pressure as a member of Vivid BAD SQUAD.
âSo when I started appearing on streams, I didnât want to be known as âAoyagi Toya.â Being âDrink Boyâ was good for me, because it meant I could make a relationship with everyone that had no strings attached.â Toya grabbed Harukaâs hand, lacing their fingers together.
âItâs the same for us idols, isnât it?â Minori spoke up after a beat of silence. âMaking friendships when youâre a well-known figure is difficult, especially when it comes to making true friendships. But as idols, we can make friends with the people who watch us, and spread hope to them!â
The others smiled and nodded. âI think everyone here wouldâve accepted you regardless of if you were Aoyagi Toya or âDrink Boy,ââ Haruka gave her boyfriendâs hand a squeeze, âbut Iâm glad youâre comfortable with this.â
Toya smiled in response, pecking a kiss to her forehead. Haruka blushed as Airi cackled, Shizuku and Minori grinning. The veteran idol glanced at chat and saw the messages moving quickly once more, and couldn't help but smile.
âPlease continue to support us!â Haruka declared. âWeâll all continue to move forward as singers and idols.â
âYou wonât want to miss out,â Toya smirked, falling into his stage persona. âVivid BAD SQUAD will surpass that legendary event.â
âAnd MORE MORE JUMP! will make it all the way to the Dome!â Minori cheered. The other two nodded, determined looks on their faces.
Haruka watched chat send supportive messages to both groups, some even expressing interest in following VBSâ journey. Then and there, Haruka knew they had something unusualâunusually specialâ in their fans.
<toya-kun youâll come on stream more and support your girlfriend right?>
âŚÂ Even if they were a little too devious for their own good.
This was requested by an anon . I hope youâre happy with this story !
Synopsis: Toya notices a cute girl attempting to practice the piano in an ancient theater, which brings back terrible memories. Haruka, the girl playing the piano, helps him warm up to the instrument again, determined to help him. Could Toya change his view of classical music, for her?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âI dare you to go in there, Toya! Haha!â Teased an acquaintance of Toya Aoyagiâs. The two were walking home from school together after Toya was finished tutoring him, but the student took a little detour to show him something he found interesting. Toya wanted to turn back but it was too late.
âYou see this? This is an abandoned theater I heard some kids at school talk about. They say the instruments in there havenât been touched for like fifty years. In fact, everything in there sounds like itâs dusty. If you go in there Iâm gonna give you 1300 yen!â
The acquaintance laughed as he said that, but Toya was scared. It wasnât even that much money. But he was curious about this place too. And so he went in a little hesitantly, not sure what to expect. Thankfully he received a flashlight from the classmate, turning it on and illuminating the place.
But his heart jumped when he heard the tune of what sounded like a grand piano playing, getting louder as he approached the theater stage. His flashlight struck upon a beautiful girl with blue hair, blue eyes, and a dark purple and gold dress. She sitting down constantly as she played.
Toya instantly was reminded of the terrible memories involving playing the piano to please his father. How he would isolate him just so his child could become a classical music prodigy. Before he could ruminate on his thoughts for too long, the girl noticed him.
âAh! You scared me. How long were you here?â She asked, stopping what she was playing.Â
Toya composed himself, âNot long. Only a minute. Your music is great. Do you live here?â
âNo. This place will always be unoccupied. I just found this piano here and wanted to see if I could play good. Iâm not great at it but Iâm certainly glad you enjoy it.â She smiled.
She then paused. âDo you like classical music much? I canât tell if you really like it.â
Toya was shocked. âWell⌠itâs complicated. I donât have the best memories associated with classical music, but when someone is talented at it, I wonât be bitter at thatâŚ..â
âIâd like to know more about these memories, if you donât mind.â Haruka replied, tapping her fingernails on the cover of the piano. âYou should sit with me. Iâd like to have someone to talk to. Itâs lonely.â
Toya stepped onto the stage and sat next to her. His hands were hesitant to lay on the keys of the piano. The memories associated with this instrument haunted him. Haruka could sense it was clearly bothering him and asked him to explain.
He explained to her the flashbacks he had of his father, and his desperation to please him even when he never wanted to play classical music. He grew an aversion to such music as a result. Haruka was surprised upon hearing this, and felt down.
âItâs okay, Iâll be fine. Iâd love to hear you play more⌠maybe that would help these feelingsâŚâ he sighed, putting his fingers on the keys. Haruka turned a page of the book of songs and the two played together for a bit. Toyaâs smile became wider when he saw how happy Haruka was to have a friend.
âWhatâs your name?â He asked.
âIâm Haruka Kiritani. And you?â
âToya Aoyagi. You sound really nice, Iâd like to come here more often if thatâs okay with you. Or perhaps you like being here aloneâŚ?â
âNever! In fact I think Iâd like to play more songs with you! But I wonder how you found this area anyway.â
âIt was a dare by a friend. I didnât know anything.â
âAh, some people do that, they harass me and call me creepy. But I think I could trust you.â
Toya was shocked upon hearing that. His eyes widened and he turned a little pink. His gaze turned away from her out of shyness. Haruka giggled at his reaction. She never knew someone would be like this to her.
From then on, the two would practice the grand piano, together. Akito would always be confused when his friend would be off to the theater since Toya never liked classical music, but Toya gained a new appreciation for it when he was around Haruka. But it had nothing to do with his father.
