Due to limited channels when I was a kid, before I was 6 I bet I ‘saw’ every episode of these shows. I guarantee I wasn’t paying attention. But who knows what is lurking in my brain. McCloud would be the most prominent one, then Harry O then Mannix.
Due to the miracle of life, a couple years back I watched a few episodes (then read about it on wikipedia etc) of Mannix on METV. And lordy no. I didnt recall a thing about THAT particular show. Besides the name.
Couldnt tell you a thing about Harry O and I havent looked it up.
Black and white tv likely 10 years older than me (or more), local CBS, NBC and PBS.

The 5 Best Resources for Someone New to Electrical
When I took the job as an administrative assistant at Harry-O Electrical Corporation last December, I really didn’t know much about the electrical field. I expected that when I plugged something into the wall outlet that the device would work or charge and when I threw up the switch that the light would turn on. I also knew from past childhood experience that unplugging the vacuum while it was running resulted in an unintentional fireworks show and an upset mother.
Yes, I was quite green. I had to do my homework to continue the progress in this job moving forward. Here are my five picks in resources that helped me go from newbie to safety coordinator in the electrical field:
OSHA Website: http://www.osha.gov
Honestly, I didn’t know even what OSHA was before being hired. I soon found out that this website has everything you need to make sure employees are safe and the company is compliant.
ABC Chapter: http://www.abc.org
ABC stands for Associated Builders & Contractors. This is where you need to go if you want to learn anything about Building & Contracting. For a newbie in the construction field this is a good place to start because they show the excellence in the field and they offer courses that can be taken online. You can also find your local ABC Chapter on this site.
National Electrical Contractors Association: http://www.necanet.org
NECA is a great resource for information on how to become an apprentice and about the different communities among Electrical Contractors. This website also shows events happening on a national scale.
Your Local Technical School:
Finding a technical school is a great way to get information on the electrical field, especially if you want to proceed into a career in electrical. You can see the requirements and class load needed to be an apprentice and to become an electrician. This is an exciting time to start an apprenticeship as more than $50 million in grants have been set aside. See this article for more information: https://www.shrm.org/ResourcesAndTools/hr-topics/organizational-and-employee-development/Pages/DOL-Promotes-Apprenticeships-with-Millions-in-Grants.aspx
A Master Electrician:
I have been fortunate to work alongside of two master electricians here at Harry-O Electrical, Harry & Gary. They have helped me learn more about the field, including lingo and how the systems they are creating go from paper idea to actually working buildings. I find this to be the most valuable resource on this list. If you are thinking of working in the field the best thing you can do is reach out to your local electrical corporation and talk to a master electrician about what they do.
