Running from 1970 to 1977 on NBC, McCloud was the creation of Herman Miller, whose earlier film work had included Coogan's Bluff - a similar tale of a cowboy cop in the big city. This fourth tie-in from Award Books was written by David Wilson and published in 1974, and features an image of series star Dennis Weaver on the cover.

McCloud 5x02 "The Gang That Stole Manhattan"

Larry Hagman, Fernando Lamas, Ruth McDevitt, Leslie Parrish. Very funny script with more than enough plot for 2-hour runtime. Lamas is a shady producer whose film is just a cover for a diamond robbery. He accidentally kills a blackmailer who knows the truth. Hagman is the clueless lead actor who investigates the death along with McCloud. As ever, all the biggest laughs come from J.D. Cannon as Chief Clifford getting more and more furious every time McCloud makes headlines. Hagman has several very funny scenes, too. He’s great. Plenty of action, as well. McCloud shooting bad guys and a mad chase around New York in vintage cars! The vibe is sillier than usual, but it’s a fun, entertaining movie. Fall 1974: NBC Sunday after The Wonderful World of Disney. Against The Sonny Comedy Revue + ABC Sunday Night Movie (ABC); Kojak + Mannix (CBS). 8/10
