My favorite amongst "beer cocktails" is the Black and Tan. This delicious nectar is truly a wonder of fluid dynamics. The carbonated Harp Lager, with its higher density, sits in the bottom of the glass while an Irish barmaid expertly pours the lighter-weight Guinness stout over the top so that the two liquids stay separated. The absolute best part of the drink is the boundary layer where the two beers slowly mix to form a beverage that is far more than the sum of its parts. This particular Black and Tan is contained in a vessel known as a no-nick pint.
