hi I saw you post something today about blocking and moving on when it comes to not agreeing with something and I totally agree but somehow I have a hard time blocking people ;; it makes me feel bad because what if I accidentally block a really cool person idk :/
Oh, I completely understand where you’re coming from! It is so incredibly normal to feel a little bit of "block guilt," especially when you’re a kind person who worries about accidentally shutting out someone cool.
But I promise you, blocking doesn't have to be a dramatic, permanent sentence. It’s just a tool to keep your dashboard feeling safe and comfortable for you.
If it helps ease your mind, blocks are never set in stone on Tumblr, and it is incredibly easy to reverse them. If you ever realize you blocked someone by mistake, you can see your entire blocked list at any time by going to your Settings. Clicking on Blogs, and scrolling down to Blocked Blogs. From there, unblocking someone is literally just a single click. It's totally foolproof, so you never have to worry about making an irreversible mistake.
That being said, I absolutely do use hard blocks when someone crosses the line into actively harassing me, people in the fandoms I am in, or my mutuals. A hard block is the permanent, total lockdown option. It completely cuts off their access to you. It prevents them from seeing your posts, sending you asks, liking or reblogging your content, or interacting with your blog in any way.
When it comes to actual bullies and harassers, a hard block is your absolute best shield to completely shut down their nonsense and keep them away from your space.
I actually, also, tend to soft block people myself when I just want a gentle boundary. A soft block is just when you block someone and then immediately unblock them. What this does is gently force them to unfollow you and removes you from their followers list, resetting things without keeping a hard block active.
Your dashboard is your digital home, and you have every right to curate it so it feels cozy. Never feel bad for protecting your peace. Thank you so much for reaching out.
