Rest of the post-war Ballin quartet - Hamburg and New York

Post-war HAPAG and NDL liners were good friends, Columbus and Albert Ballin weren't rivals, so weren't their younger. Hamburg and Berlin (III) were launched in one year what led the beginning for their life long friendship. Both of them are too pure for this world. New York won't let anyone hurt her siblings and their friends!

However, world changes. Germany changes. New regime begins. HAPAG and NDL start to drift apart because of different worldviews. At least their leading liners' different worldviews. Young Bremen and Europa hadn't that much touch with HAPAG ships

The S.S. Reliance was built in 1914 in Bremerhaven, Germany, and originally named the Johann Heinrich Burchard. During the Great War she was sold to the Dutch Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd to replace the Tubantia, which was sunk by a German U-boat. In early 1920 she steamed to Amsterdam and was renamed Limburgia, sailing on the Amsterdam-Buenos Aires route, with and her and her sister, Brabantia, being the largest to do so at the time.

In 1922 she changed hands to the United America Line. She was refitted by Blohm & Voss and was renamed the Reliance. She sailed the New York-Hamburg route, and in 1923 was re-registered in Panama to get around the Prohibition in the US.

In 1926 she was sold to HAPAG and refitted once more, and in 1927 started cruise service, operating solely as a cruise ship starting in 1928, making world cruises each Winter with her sister. From 1934-1937 she was painted white like other cruise ships, had her funnels replaced with larger ones to look more modern, was fitted with new radio and sonar tech and a gyrocompass. She was also made a two-class vessel. In 1938 she was badly damaged by fire and scrapped in 1941.
