RMS Titanic is launched in Belfast - 31 May 1911
The Titanic and her story get plenty of attention most days, but let us take a moment to again appreciate the ship that rescued her survivors, endangering itself in the process to do so: the RMS Carpathia. Upon hearing of the Titanic’s inevitable fate, captain Arthur Rostron of the Carpathia acted quickly and ordered the ship to hurry to the aid of the survivors. Within 2 hours the captain had ordered the lounge to be converted into a ready hospital, and had doctors of various nationalities ready to help the survivors. Rostron also ordered all available steam to be directed to the boilers, sacrificing many amenities onboard to give as much power to the engine as possible, even pushing the engines to their limits and damaging them in the rush. The night was just as dark and cold for the Carpathia as well, and icebergs and growlers were scattered in the water, Carpathia nearly hitting two icebergs herself on her way to Titanic. Imagine that for a moment. After rescuing the survivors, even the passengers of Carpathia did their part, many giving them space and beds in their own rooms. Carpathia’s act has not been forgotten but I wanted to take a minute to remind everyone of her heroism, and that of everyone onboard.

I got “I liked your shoelaces”d in the middle of the North Sea on a Cunard Cruise to Norway. Nothing could have prepared me. We both absolutely died.
Turns out her kids were into TMA and I’ve never felt so silly or so seen.
