Hi- Tension I Betcha: regarded as one of the early practitioners of brit funk this North London group featured future solo artist DavidJoseph on lead vocals. 1978 slice of nice is the Bside of the more known Hi-Tension though I prefer this fender Rhodes driven sultry number. Brit Funk is a great genre, though it was bever called as such in NY growing up it had a direct connection to NYC dance floors whether it was being played at clubs like Paradise Garage or The Mudd Club it was a a part of all things dance floor driven in the late 70s and early 80s in NYC. Acts I would consider brit funk would include Level 42, Central Line (Walking Into Sunshine) Freeez ( IOU, Souther Freeeze), Delegation ( Oh Honey) and of course Imagination who had a huge US hit with Just an Illusion. David Joseph would go on the have a hit in 83 with Can’t Hide Your Love another NYC dance floor classic. Another great Brit Funk tune is First True Love Affair by Jimmy Ross an all time Paradise Garage banger. It could be said Sade is a descendent of Brit Funk are groups as diverse as Spandau Ballet, Culture Club and Loose Ends. The English have always had a love for soul, funk and r and b. There late 70s/early 80s jazz inflicted dance floor friendly version of what we in the US would call R n B was groovy as hell. I have always been a fan and this record is KILLER. Gotta give @djrockandsoul a shout out he turned me on to this one. #BritFunk #HangingOnAString #LondonSoulPatrol #NotNorthernSoul #SuperDiscoBreakin (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrbZhTCBjUD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5uaomhopah6l
