Basin in Bathroom, to Repair Cracked.- (a) If not too badly cracked, take a strip of calico about an inch wide, spread on it a thin layer of white lead made into a paste with a little raw linseed oil. Stick it right down the crack and let it dry for a few days before using the basin. Put this on the outside of basin.

(b) Fill crack with mixture of plaster of Paris and white lead, equal parts.

(c) Fill the crack with Craven Burleigh Nu-Mould. Will set as part of the basin. Good.

Sounds more practical than using dried ramen noodles and super glue, even with the lead.

I tried to search for an image of Craven Burleigh Nu-Mould, but the only Craven Burleigh product I could find was a miracle hair grower.

Aunt Daisy was a New Zealand radio personality. From 1936 until 1963 her daily radio show centred around domestic products, cookery and handy hints saw her popularity grow to her publishing cook books and handy guides, full of helpful hints and tips for any domestic cleaning needs, fix ups and mishaps.

Born Maud Ruby Taylor, married name Basham, she was usually know as Daisy Basham, professionally as Aunt Daisy she had other nicknames such as "New Zealand's First Lady of the Radio" and "Everybody's Aunt"

She lived from 30 Aug 1879–14 Jul 1963

I was given a well used Aunt Daisy's NEW Book of HANDY HINTS as a gift from my mother for my birthday and I fell in love with it.

The handy hints in it are old and very much outdated, often using products that are not available now days, but I do like the idea of knowing how to get boot polish out of a frock coat if I need to.

I will be sharing snippets from this book, and with any luck I will be able to find more Aunt Daisy books in the future.

Soup.-Always add a little Marmite to vegetable soup, and a little chopped mint.

Soup Too Salty.-Put a piece of thick bread in for awhile ; and add a little sugar. Also put in raw potatoes for a while and remove afterwards.

For those who don't know what marmite is, it's a strong tasting yeast spread made from the by products of beer making.

Christmas Pudding.-Prevent from going mouldy by untying the knots in the cloth and throughly drying it before re-tying and hanging up in a dry place.
