It had been three months since the faithful night when the snow fell softly over the abandoned streets of Detroit which was occupied only by armed forces, fleeing human inhabitants. The night the last of the deviant rebellion fought to their last to gain freedom they desperately hoped for. Three months since Connor, the Deviant Hunter himself, turned his back on his makers & changed the tides of the revolution in their favor. Though time had passed & the city had slowly begun to heal & return to life, there was a constant eeriness throughout. Human populations which had evacuated Detroit had trickled back in, returning to their homes in spite of the deviant presence. Some left for good, others refused to leave at all. Regardless of personal choice, the city needed order in a moment of instability.
In those months Hank had continued to work, & each day Connor had been left at his home to sit & wait for his return. Recollections of that ‘poodle’ comment sprung to mind in those moments between tidying & small household chores, but by week one it was clear the android was getting restless. Like an anxious form of cabin fever, he would pace & busy himself until it felt like a part of his very being was crawling out of his chassis, desperate to get out. It was no secret that he had enjoyed a taste of the work at the DPD & he wanted to go back, but there was no way in Hell that he could get clearance after the recent happenings. The revolution was still too fresh on everyone’s mind & the nation needed to come to terms with this new form of sentient life they had been forced to acknowledge. Connor knew this, but it didn’t help settle his feelings any more.
Weeks of small hints & wanton looks turned into less subtle expressions & an argument or two. Connor stressed that his presence might do the precinct some good, that public relations could benefit from the use of an android on the force helping put the city back together. It would prove androids were still trustworthy, that they could work & live peacefully, cohabitate Detroit as a community. He hadn’t imagined anyone would listen, his partner held a few surprises. Fowler had needed some convincing, but the moment Connor stepped foot in the precinct for the first time since deviating, he felt as though it & any conditions he was meant to uphold would be worth it. He had his orders; keep his head down, do his job, & don’t do anything to jeopardize the reputation or integrity of the DPD. Connor intended to keep his promise.
It was unsurprising that Fowler would keep the duo on the deviant cases for the time being. He wanted to test Connor in the field, keep an eye on him before he allowed the android to run wild. The mission was simple; confirm status of defendant - active or deactivated - & only bring those charged with assault or homicide into custody. It was a delicate situation but Connor felt they were doing good work. However, he worried over the particulars of the individual cases regarding assaults. There were the alleged victims testimonies, yes, but there were so many factors which the android suspected were at play here. A pensive mood overcame as he paused in his scrolling of the remaining files & Connor turned his attentions to his left, to the man sitting at the desk beside him. ❝ Hank? Could I ask your opinion on something? ❞ His pretty visage was drawn into something between a pout & a frown, unintentional but it was just how he was designed. Whether it was a flaw or a measured attribute was anyone's guess anymore, but nothing about this android wasn’t purposeful.
