“Jason Todd.” Red - no, Jason - says with a small huff of laughter. Then he gives Hal a two fingered salute and jumps off the roof and away.

Jason. It suits him. Hal likes the way it sounds in his accent as well, East Gotham, deep with a little bit of roughness to it that Hal thinks is attributed to smoking. There’s warm pooling in his stomach and a stupid little grin on his face and Hal is beginning to realise he might be getting a crush on the (ex?) crime lord he met yesterday, which is probably not a good decision.

IT’S FANTASTIC!!!

Bruce is always prepared, or he tries to be, to the very best of his ability. Being prepared comes hand in hand with having all the pertinent information readily available, comes with knowing said information beforehand, so he can also tell when it’s pertinent and when it isn’t.

These things are all undeniable. Even a baby could say this about Batman (in some cases, most cases, like this one, the dividing line between Bat and Bruce is only theoretical) and no one would think twice about it because it is true.

And yet...

And yet he is undeniable un-prepared, painfully so, when he walks further into the Justice League’s headquarters and the yelling gets stronger. It grows and grows until he’s at the epicenter of the spectacle, of glowing green clashing against a black and red he knows too well.

Well, at least there is one thing he knows, here. Because he definitely walked in during the middle of a heated argument.

“I just — I CAN’T believe it’s YOU!”

Jason, gods, that’s Jason. What’s he doing here — “What do you mean with that?!”

“I knew there was someone but,” and it’s Rayner the one causing half of the ruckus, neither of them caring about the audience they’ve gathered, “you?!”

“Yeah!” Jason makes himself stand taller, seem bigger, getting all over the lantern’s space, “It’s me! Have a problem with that, Rayner?!”

“I DO! You can’t — Hal’s —” Bruce eyebrows fly to his hairline. No one can tell because he has the cowl on, but they are definitely up near his hairline. Hal? Last Bruce knew, the man is still in the infirmary, severily wounded after the latest fight and

cold sweat dots Bruce’s forehead.

Please, let it not be that.

Clearly losing whatever was left of his patience and presence of mind, Kyle finally yells, “You can’t fuck my dad, Jason!!!”

Everyone freezes, even the two who had been fighting. The sound of Jason’s laughter, when it breaks free and implodes all around them, is loud, too loud and full of sound.

“Oh my god—”

“HAL,” Kyle screeches quickly, cheeks flaming red, “I MEANT HAL!”

OKAY SO, HALJAY

I've given this ship much thought because I love Jason AND I love Hal, and also I honestly think they have quite a bit in common (they are drift compatible, your honor).

The most obvious thing is that they have both died and gotten better and, once Jason's initial intense phase blows over, they both have similar approaches to the whole "been dead, done that" issue. I mean, they are both disillusioned yet they never lose their will to fight, they never stop fighting---mostly, I'd say, because they don't know how to.

They both have issues with authority even when it comes with the irony that they ARE some sort of authority themselves. They act like they are cool loners, like they can do everything alone, but at the same time they crave friendship and love and companionship. Someone who understands them, understands their approach to things and won't judge as first course of action.

Also, and on a lighter note, they would both agree to having a series of one night stands (that develop into something bigger) when they realize just how much Bruce is going to hate this. They both have So Many Grudges with the same man, they're going to bond over that so fast, I swear.
