I will start with a thing me and vico we kinda talk over casca and strabo, thats their work as friends because they can get along bc both are smart and curious people, sarcastic but no bad people that kinda see the world as cruel it is, however this work mostly because strabo as in Vico's characterization someone deeply insecure abt his habilities and this comfortable for someone like casca and why its thatt???
I think it's abt Gaul, abt himself and so on.
A thing I say early in some meta abt casca it's exactly how the games aren't a concept to come with that are justified in any capacity, this casca cruelty on display, and no one force him to think those, especially bc he admit something very vital I think: his own vain. Crassus can cheer casca because knows him!!1 THEY WERE FRIENDS AND VERY CLOSED!! you see, casca tell us explicit, he was failing gaul class, he do feel contempt for gaul, and mention he refuse to participate, but I really think and ask if what casca feel as an adult in regret by be accredited for the hunger games that are happening since 10 years ago, it's really the same casca as a young adult student felt, because I really doubt it and the fact this man was best friend with CRASSUS SNOW of all the people!!!
Im not surprise that even if in the moment casca could recognize "his private joke" as something wrong that shouldn't be shared, crassus DONT, since all what we get to know abt crassus its a thing I believe was not a surprise considering the 1st rebellion happen after: deshumanization of the districts, and in general the see them down, this what made even if casca wasnt a hater like crassus that he think this joke its okay to say, that he can conceive it and that OBVIOUSLY CRASSUS NOT THINK ITS SOMETHING WRONG!!!!!!!
this the malicious part in crassus, his friend was failing but probably not only could recognize casca brain but trust on it, enough to do a team with him and the moment he say something "smart" deliver it to gaul to get a good grade but it's also the thing were he may be sinister honest: HE WAS DOING CASCA A FAVOUR, well yes if you consider HE WAS FAILING THIS CLASS!!
AND CASCA ITS FURIOUS!! AND CASCA GO TO HAVE A FIGHT WITH HIM AND IM NOT SURE HOW MUCH HE WAS MAD WITH CRASSUS IN THE INSTANT, LIKE YES BUT ALSO CASCA USES CRASSUS ESPECIALLY IN DEATH TO ESCAPE HIS OWN GUILTY
but lets talk abt gaul and him, bc its sososos ironic and so fucking funny, I think theres a bit of sexism on it but aside from that, casca HATE gaul, found her repulsive and very much view her as some monster but as an student its having a fucking attitude, by refuse to participate, by BE FAILING THIS CLASS ON PURPOSE, maybe not concious but its a bit there isnt? Casca is acting as if something was better than Gaul, not necessarily on smartness but maybe even on morality? Because he can see her on a bad light, hes doing all this insufferable shit to be the one in give on of many "shes was right" all this damn timeee, like its crazy because ofc speculation but im so sos o sure this wasnt the only time gaul ask such task, they weren't the only pair of students but what's this, that casca highbottom of ALL THE PEOPLE, its the one DOING THE GAMES?
Casca even in regret is so arrogant, just see how he talks of the games, he's so good at puzzles, children as gladiators? ITS GENIUS, it was A BIG IDEA, IT WAS SO FUCKING HORRIBLE. and thats I think a part of why hes drowing in guilty, and in self hate and being pathethic, bc the games? that was HIS PEAK.
oh he do say he did try to stop the games (while coping with it in an unhealthy way), I believe him but NOTHING OF WHAT HE DO FUCKING WORK, he swear the games will stop after the 10th games but thats true??? And this like I said a part of what torture casca, why hes saying over and over stuff abt self destruction, bc has end there by his own hand, not matter how much claim crassus deserve be DEATH, how much think crassus RUIN HIS LIFE, his own rotten self, capitol perfect brain, give birth to the games, is a proof, the rabbit not a genius and I think this impact on his interactions (along with again his own vain) his reputation get drown and this why he and strabo work.
